Earlier in her career, Dr. Schall served as technical superintendent for control system engineering at DuPont Engineering Polymers in Parkersburg, West Virginia, from 1997 to 1998. Dr. Schall's educational background laid a strong foundation for her achievements. She received a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from the State University of New York at Fredonia in 1981 and a second Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 1982. Continuing her studies at Penn State, she obtained a Master of Science in industrial engineering in 1986 and a Doctor of Philosophy in industrial engineering in 1988. In addition to her formal education, Dr. Schall's active professional credentials include certification in organizational health, designation as an ASQ manager of quality/organizational excellence, Six Sigma master black belt designation, and credentials as an ASQ quality engineer.
Active in her professional community, Dr. Schall is a member of several industry-related organizations, including serving as an internet liaison for the Northern Shenandoah Valley Section of the American Society for Quality since 2004 and treasurer for multiple sections since 2017. She has also been chairing the Freund-Marquardt Medal committee for the American Society for Quality since 2014. Throughout her tenure, Dr. Schall has remained affiliated as a member of the American Society for Engineering Education and the International Physical Engineering Society. Among other affiliations, she completed impactful work with the International Statistical Engineering Association, where she served as the organization's treasurer for two years. During that time, she initiated strategic planning discussions that resulted in a new direction for the association, the first such effort undertaken by its board in over five years, demonstrating her ability to facilitate transformative conversations even on an unpaid basis.
Dr. Schall's commitment to advancing engineering education and accreditation is evident through her longstanding involvement with ABET Foundation Inc., where she has been the founder and lead consultant since 2014 and is also a fellow.
