SHERWOOD, OR, June 04, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mayela Armour, SHRM-SCP, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Currently serving as vice president of people experience at Johnstone Supply the Founders Group in Tigard, Oregon, Mrs. Armour is a distinguished leader in human resources (HR) and organizational development. Since 2021, she has partnered with the leadership team to align employee success strategies with company objectives, overseeing daily HR and payroll operations. Throughout a career of nearly two decades, she has developed her expertise in employee relations, risk and compliance, and impactful change management programs — an achievement reflected in her ability to lead teams through periods of transition while maintaining empathy and strategic focus.
Mrs. Armour's responsibilities include supporting departments with staffing challenges, developing career paths to motivate new generations of employees, managing workforce models in response to evolving workplace climates and navigating employment law changes across Oregon, California, Washington, Utah, Idaho, and Alaska. Additionally, she coaches and develops future leaders through comprehensive training programs and development paths, all with the goal of creating healthy environments where employees and management teams can thrive together.
Prior to assuming her vice presidential role, Mrs. Armour initially joined Johnstone Supply as a human resources director in Tigard, Oregon, from 2021 to 2023. In this capacity, she was pivotal in shaping the company's HR framework during a period of significant growth, implementing policies that fostered employee engagement and retention while ensuring compliance with complex regulatory requirements.
From 2019 to 2021, Mrs. Armour served as the senior human resources manager at BrucePac — the culmination of seven years with the company — where she focused on enhancing organizational culture and streamlining talent management processes across Oregon and Oklahoma. Before ascending into her senior role, she held the position of HR manager for six years and was recognized for exceptional leadership with the Leader of the Pac - Manager of the Year Award in 2017. Though her career to date counts many milestones, this accolade was particularly meaningful as she had contributed to developing the award program itself, underscoring her impact as a human resources professional, people leader and mentor.
Earlier in her career, Mrs. Armour was a human resources manager at Myers Container LLC (now North Coast Container), Container Management Services LLC and General Steel Drum LLC in Portland from 2011 to 2014. In this role, she managed all aspects of HR operations for six entities across Oregon, North Carolina and California, further honing her expertise in risk management and employee relations.
After relocating to the East Coast with her husband, she joined the company as a receptionist during a gap year. Her responsibilities soon expanded into Human Resources, where she managed life benefits administration and coordinated employee wellness clinics. These experiences sparked a passion for supporting others and ultimately led to her transition into a Junior HR Generalist role.
Alongside her primary endeavors, Mrs. Armour is an active member of several industry organizations including Executive Network, the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the Association of Women in Industry (AWI), the Portland Human Resource Management Association (PHRMA) and Women in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR).
Academically, Ms. Armour is a first-generation college graduate who earned a Bachelor of Science in health science as well as an associate degree in Spanish language and Chicano Latino Studies, both from Portland State University. Determined to make an impact outside the classroom as well, she served as the multicultural affairs director for Associated Students of Portland State University (ASPSU) and took part in the school's National Student Exchange program.
To augment her ability to implement process improvements and wellness initiatives throughout her career, Mrs. Armour was certified as a Lean Six Sigma black belt and green belt in 2024. She became a senior certified professional (SHRM-SCP) and certified professional (SHRM-CP) through SHRM in 2023 and was certified as a worksite wellness specialist by Global Healthcare Resources in 2020.
Mentorship has also played a significant role in Mrs. Armour's success. Reflecting on her storied journey to date, she credits her high school teacher Mr. Mazzarella for early inspiration; Jeff Grohs at BrucePac for encouraging her pursuit of a Master of Business Administration (MBA); her husband for his unwavering encouragement and valuable operational insights; and Steve Porter at Johnstone Supply for elevating the role of human resources within the company's organizational strategy.
In addition to her work responsibilities, Mrs. Armour has long been dedicated to helping others through community service and professional mentorship. Since 2026, she has served as a mentor with Women in HVACR, supporting women as they carve their own paths in male-dominated industries. She was a board member at Legacy Health for three years, during which she contributed to strategic planning initiatives, and mentored young individuals through job skill training programs with Boys & Girls Clubs of America for two years. Additionally, she has volunteered with Oregon Food Bank and The Springs at Carman Oaks in Lake Oswego.
In her personal life, Mrs. Armour met her husband while participating in a student exchange program that took her to Florida International University; they have been married for 15 years as of 2026 and are the proud parents of three children ages 13, 10 and 7. They have since relocated to Oregon to be closer to their family and live a more relaxed lifestyle than that offered by the Northeast. Outside of her professional commitments, she enjoys outdoor hobbies such as fishing, camping, kayaking and attending her children's sports activities.
Looking toward the future, Mrs. Armour intends to balance the integration of artificial intelligence with essential human skills such as critical thinking and empathy within the workforce while continuing her education with an MBA in organizational development. Determined to maintain a strong work-life balance as well, she remains dedicated to supporting Johnstone Supply the Founders Group's continued growth trajectory while guiding her children through important schooling and life transitions.
Mrs. Armour's life and career exemplify resilience, adaptability and a steadfast commitment to personal growth — qualities that continue to shape her legacy as an influential leader in the field of human resources and beyond.
