Dr. Fielders has established herself as a leading expert in medical and mental healthcare oversight, with a career spanning almost two decades. Since 2019, she has served as the regional clinical manager for the Alabama Department of Corrections. In this capacity, Dr. Fielders oversees the medical and mental healthcare provided by the department's healthcare vendor, regularly visiting correctional facilities to engage with both physician staff and vendor personnel.

As part of her responsibilities, Dr. Fielders checks on inmates in infirmaries, restrictive housing areas, general population and mental health units, as well as addressing healthcare concerns that arise within the inmate population. Her most notable achievement is her passionate advocacy for mental health among incarcerated populations. She has worked diligently to highlight the needs of vulnerable inmates, particularly those experiencing mental health challenges. By focusing on their well-being and addressing the stigma associated with their circumstances, Dr. Fielders has made a significant impact in promoting understanding and care for this often overlooked group.

From 2015 to 2019, Dr. Fielders held the position of director of nursing for mental health at Julia Tutwiler Prison for Women within the Alabama Department of Corrections. In this leadership role, she was responsible for managing nursing operations related to mental health services, ensuring quality care for female inmates and supporting staff development.

Before joining the Department of Corrections, Dr. Fielders spent several years contributing to the academic field as a nursing instructor at Central Alabama Community College in Childersburg, Alabama, between 2011 and 2014. She played a key role in educating future nurses, sharing her expertise in both clinical practice and mental health care.

Dr. Fielders previously worked in the field as a home health and hospice nurse with Alacare from 2009 to 2011. During this period, she provided compassionate care to patients in their homes, addressing complex medical needs and supporting families during challenging times. Dr. Fielders's commitment to mental health began early in her career when she served as a mental health nurse at Searcy Hospital, a state-owned psychiatric facility in Mount Vernon that existed from 1902 to 2012. In this role between 2007 and 2009, she cared for individuals with various psychiatric conditions, deepening her understanding of mental health challenges. Dr. Fielders entered the healthcare profession as a therapist with East Alabama Mental Health, an organization catering to the needs of children, adolescents, adults and families.

Possessing a rich educational background, Dr. Fielders's foundational studies began with an associate degree from Central Alabama Community College, followed by a bachelor's degree in psychology from Auburn University and a master's degree in counseling and education from Troy University. Continuing her education, she received a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of South Alabama, a master's degree in nursing education from the University of South Alabama, and a Doctor of Health Sciences from Old Dominion University, further enhancing her expertise in healthcare leadership and policy.

Throughout her career, Dr. Fielders has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to advancing mental health services within correctional settings and beyond. She is an active member of the Alabama Nursing Association, reflecting her commitment to professional excellence and ongoing engagement with industry peers. Civically, Dr. Fielders remains deeply connected to her community through active participation in church activities. While professional and parental responsibilities have limited her involvement with nonprofit organizations thus far, she anticipates pursuing additional volunteer opportunities in the near future.

Dr. Fielders attributes her success to determination and lifelong learning, a passion instilled by her mother at an early age, which has driven her continuous pursuit of knowledge and personal growth throughout her professional journey. Her distinguished record reflects not only technical proficiency but also compassion and advocacy for underserved populations, qualities that have defined her contributions to healthcare throughout her career. Looking ahead, Dr. Fielders plans to continue providing nursing care within her current capacity while seeking professional certifications and additional education in specialized areas to further expand her expertise.
