BARDONIA, NY, June 16, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Steven J. Gentile has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Marked by a series of high-profile assignments and commendations, Mr. Gentile has led a distinguished career of several decades in law enforcement and security consulting. Most recently, he has served as a security consultant for Brosnan Risk Consultants and Resolve Security, where he provided protection and travel services for influential individuals.
In his capacity, Mr. Gentile ensured the safety of clients and their families during public appearances, drawing on his expertise in advanced location security planning. His work included collaborating closely with international security teams and safeguarding dignitaries such as the Prime Minister of Israel, Yitzhak Shamir, during his visits to New York City. He also managed personal security for members of Saudi Arabia's royal family and oversaw the safety of real estate and hospitality icons Harry and Leona Helmsley, two of the wealthiest individuals in the United States.
Prior to taking on his consulting role, Mr. Gentile retired from active law enforcement in 2004 after a distinguished tenure as a police officer that began in 1989 when he graduated first in his class from the police academy. In 1994 he was named Law Enforcement Officer of the Year as a uniformed police officer. During his service, he was temporarily assigned to the Rockland County Narcotics Task Force and later conducted undercover narcotics operations.
Also among Mr. Gentile's proudest achievements was receiving the Medal of Honor — the highest award for police officers in the United States — making him the only recipient of this accolade in Rockland County's history. On June 18, 1993, he thwarted a bank robbery involving four suspects, three of whom were trained by an Islamic terrorist group. During a high-risk traffic stop, a shootout ensued; Mr. Gentile took decisive action and neutralized one of the suspects, preventing a potential hostage situation at Pearl River High School. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) later revealed that it had been tracking this group for six months due to its involvement in a series of bank robberies along the Jersey and New York coast.
Mr. Gentile began his professional experience at Helmsley Hotels' Park Lane property in New York City following his graduation from college in 1986. As a young security officer without a gun permit, he quickly attracted the attention of Leona Helmsley for his diligence and professionalism in the face of demanding circumstances. This formative role laid a strong foundation for his future success in high-stakes security environments.
Throughout every stage of his career, Mr. Gentile has been recognized with accolades and honors reflecting his commitment to public safety and community service. He was presented with the Combat Cross from the Orangetown Police Department and the Rockland County DWI Award from the County of Rockland. He was also given the Elks Exalted Ruler Award — the highest honor bestowed by Elks USA — as well as the American Legion Meritorious Service Award and accolades from organizations such as Good Cops for New York.
Hailing from an equally accomplished educational background, Mr. Gentile earned a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from Marist University, graduating with dean's list honors in 1986. He further broadened his perspective by attending a criminal justice seminar in England through a partnership with the University of New Haven.
Mr. Gentile continued his professional development with specialized training at several esteemed institutions, completing coursework at the Drug Enforcement Administration Training School at the United States Drug Enforcement Administration Office of Training in 1991 and training as a fire guard at the Fire Academy operated by the Fire Department of New York City. Furthermore, he gained valuable experience in undercover operations through training at Rockland County Police Academy and was certified as a police instructor by the FBI at Westchester County Police Academy.
Reflecting on his remarkable journey thus far, Mr. Gentile attributes his success to unwavering drive and strong religious convictions, both of which have instilled confidence and courage throughout his career. He believes that true dedication to law enforcement and security requires the readiness to make personal sacrifices for others — a principle guided by the faith that has shaped both his professional conduct and personal philosophy.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Gentile has long been committed to civic engagement through volunteerism and community involvement. He has served as a catechist, usher and senior altar server at St. Aedan Catholic Church in Pearl River, New York, supported youth athletics as a volunteer coach and umpire for West Nyack Little League, and contributed through his involvement with the Orangetown Softball Organization.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Gentile intends to continue contributing to the public safety and security field while focusing on instructing newcomers entering the profession. He also serves as a guest speaker at criminal justice curriculums on mental preparation and the proper mindset to surviving unexpected deadly force encounters. Drawing on his extensive experience with high-profile clients and complex assignments, he aims to expand his impact through both teaching and increased volunteer work, valuing both professional recognition and new opportunities to forge meaningful connections within his community.
