Mr. Bhat's distinguished career in thermal engineering and hyperscale data center design spans more than 25 years, marked by technical mastery, global impact and a commitment to advancing the field. Since late 2025, he has served as a pre-sales thermal engineer at Vertiv Group Corp. in Pelzer, South Carolina, where he collaborates with solution architects and sales account managers to interpret client requirements. His responsibilities include collaborating with multidisciplinary teams—comprising thermal, electrical, computer-aided design, architectural, controls and service engineering specialists—to deliver integrated systems tailored to client sites. Mr. Bhat ensures the selection of appropriate thermal equipment for projects, primarily for Air Cooling and Liquid Cooling, ranging from Chillers, CDUs and Smart Runs for prefabricated modular solutions. He works on projects ranging from brownfield redevelopments to greenfield construction of data centers for specific chip architectures.
At Vertiv, Mr. Bhat maintains specialized knowledge of hundreds of chipset types from providers such as Nvidia and Google, determining precise cooling requirements for IT infrastructure. He utilizes chillers, CDU units and exhaust systems to efficiently capture and dissipate heat generated by storage devices, network switches and large-scale chip systems, addressing heat rejection challenges through sustainable, water-efficient methods. His expertise extends to writing test procedures and designing specialized equipment and piping for integrated systems, such as Smart Run and OneCore.
Previously, Mr. Bhat served as an automation engineer at Vertiv in Columbus, Ohio, beginning in March 2025, performing unit testing of cooling distribution units, designing test benches and supporting automation of lab processes. In 2024, he excelled as a lead mechanical engineer at EnerSys in Reading, Pennsylvania, contributing to battery cell design, testing and development for electric vehicles, telecommunications equipment and other applications.
Earlier, Mr. Bhat worked for Altair Engineering Inc. (now Siemens) between 2012 and 2024, rising from a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) application engineer in Bangalore to a lead product specialist for CFD with a focus on batteries. In this role, he managed global support duties of validation of CFD solutions and high-performance computing systems. As a business development manager, he worked with leading global companies in the APAC region and worldwide, including electric vehicle manufacturers and integrators, while overseeing advanced CFD applications. Prior roles included project manager at KPIT (2011–2012), consultant at TECOSIM in the U.K. (2010), senior manager at Enphiniti Engineering Solutions (2009), project manager at Wipro (2007–2009)—where he earned the Feather in the Cap award instrumental to securing a leading European Auto OEM client resulting in a multiyear, multimillion-dollar contract—and lead engineer at Quest Global (2002–2007), where he was an ISO Auditor, Six Sigma Green Belt holder, and won the CEO Appreciation Award.
Mr. Bhat holds a Bachelor of Engineering in mechanical engineering from the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal (1997), and a Master of Science in mechanical engineering with a specialization in heat transfer management from the University of New Orleans (2000). He has accredited certification for CCET – Battery Management and Safety Module from Nexus at University of Michigan. He is fluent in more than a dozen languages, including English, Korean and Italian, along with mastery of over 20 Dravidian dialects of Kannada.
His professional affiliations include ASME, ASHRAE, SAE International, AIChE, Toastmasters and the Advanced Communicators Club. Mr. Bhat will begin serving as president of the Troy Community Toastmasters Club in July 2026. He previously completed a two-year term as elected secretary for Pampa Kannada Koota of Michigan and has made significant contributions including as a national-level event supervisor for Science Olympiad Inc., coaching students from elementary through high school while teaching robotics. His volunteerism includes dedicating 600–800 hours annually to community services, including Meals on Wheels, asset repair at the Reading Science Center, local soup kitchens, and upcoming commitments at Roper Mountain Science Center in Greenville, South Carolina.
According to his mentor David Underdown, Mr. Bhat is considered highly resourceful, particularly in supporting others and finding solutions in complex situations. He is passionate about empowering emerging artists from India, having hosted artists, organized events, and helped bring traditional art forms like Yakshagana, Hindustani classical and Sitar instrumental to wider U.S. audiences.
Academically and technically prolific, Mr. Bhat authored a published book on controls and over 25 award-winning technical papers. His achievements are underscored by multiple awards and accolades at international engineering conferences.
Throughout his career journey, Mr. Bhat has established himself as an expert in thermal management and engineering, Automotive & Building HVAC, hyperscale data center design of air and liquid cooling systems, analysis of equipment from both validated design perspectives and new product development initiatives for customized products. His technical reach extends globally, interacted with chief technology officers and engineering heads across thousands of companies worldwide. In this endeavor he has travelled and worked in close to a dozen countries in the world. His mission has led to contributions of cutting-edge advancements in cooling technology, emphasizing efficiency, reliability, and industry-leading standards.
Guided by principles of service before self, inculcated by his uncle Nagesh Shanbhag from Dharwad, India, Mr. Bhat maintains an unwavering dedication to service within professional circles and broader society. Looking ahead, he seeks to further optimize his time for intellectual pursuits by expanding his scientific and literary engagement to deepen understanding across disciplines as well as continuing to share wisdom without preaching to empower the next generation of youngsters.
