SUMMERVILLE, SC, July 16, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Shelley Perkins has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Perkins currently serves as president, certified orthotist and certified pedorthist at Palmetto Orthotic, Prosthetic and Pedorthic Center LLC, a business she and her husband established in Charleston, South Carolina, two years ago. The company continues a legacy that began in 1967 when her husband, David Perkins, founded the original practice after returning from service in the Vietnam War. Their shared commitment to patient care and family values has shaped the organization's mission and culture. Ms. Perkins is actively involved in day-to-day operations, coming in on Fridays and occasionally on Saturdays to attend to special patients, support staff and ensure all needs are met. She manages payroll, oversees bill payments and maintains communication with vendors, demonstrating a hands-on approach to leadership.
Her expertise in orthotics, prosthetics and pedorthics is widely recognized. Ms. Perkins finds profound fulfillment in helping individuals regain mobility and independence through custom orthotic, prosthetic and pedorthic solutions. She recalls the transformative moments when patients who had used wheelchairs for extended periods stood and walked again—experiences that continue to move her deeply, even after more than four decades in the field. The opportunity to work alongside her children, two of whom have joined the family business, is a source of immense pride.
Before her current role, Ms. Perkins contributed significantly to Oklahoma State University beginning in 2005. There, she established an orthotic, prosthetic and pedorthic center designed to serve community patients while providing valuable internship opportunities for students. She played a pivotal role in marketing the clinic to local physicians. She became involved in education by teaching Medicare regulations and specialized courses for orthotic and pedorthic students at the university's respected program in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Her husband also joined the faculty, teaching spinal technology and prosthetic courses. This period was especially rewarding for Ms. Perkins as it allowed her to blend clinical practice with academic mentorship.
Ms. Perkins' educational background has been instrumental in her professional journey. She earned a bachelor's degree in administration, business, human resources and statistics from Southern Nazarene University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, graduating in 2004. Her academic achievements were recognized when she was voted Best Night Student by the faculty at Oklahoma City College. Additionally, she holds an associate degree in law from Oklahoma City College, where she studied under experienced attorney professors. These credentials have provided her with a strong foundation for managing complex business operations and navigating regulatory requirements within health care.
She is certified as an orthotist and pedorthist—credentials that underscore her technical proficiency and dedication to patient outcomes. Ms. Perkins attributes her success to three key influences: being raised in a godly home that nurtured her faith; unwavering support from her family; and the moral values, character and integrity instilled by her parents. Her faith remains central to every aspect of her life and work; she believes that without this foundation, personal achievement is fleeting.
Throughout her career, Ms. Perkins has received several honors, including the Shining Star Award in Real Estate and recognition as a Florida state swimming champion during her youth—a testament to her drive for excellence from an early age.
Born in Eustis, Florida, Ms. Perkins enjoys listening to bluegrass music, playing bass and working with horses outside of her professional commitments. She cherishes time spent with her spouse, David Perkins, their three children, and an expanding family that now includes grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Looking ahead, Ms. Perkins plans to expand Palmetto Orthotic, Prosthetic and Pedorthic Center LLC by opening additional branch offices while continuing to balance meaningful work with personal fulfillment.
Above all else, Ms. Perkins' life is guided by faith—a principle reflected not only in her personal convictions but also in the ethos of every facility she leads. The motto "In God We Trust" has been prominently displayed at each location under her direction as a reminder that service to others is both a calling and a privilege.
