ANNAPOLIS, MD, July 30, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gary L. Baillio has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Marked by his commitment to transparency, ethical business practices and advocacy for small business owners, Mr. Baillio has led an impactful career in the payment processing and sales industry. For nearly two decades, he has served as president and chief executive officer of Merchant Processing Solutions, Inc. in Annapolis, Maryland, where he is widely recognized for his sales and marketing expertise as well as his reputation for integrity and honesty. Under his leadership, the company specializes in providing hardware, software and daily deposit services that facilitate electronic payments for businesses across the United States.
Mr. Baillio's approach is rooted in simplifying the complexities of card processing, offering flat-rate pricing models that eliminate hidden fees and provide complete transparency. This dedication to clarity and fairness has set his organization apart from larger competitors, enabling countless merchants and entrepreneurs to better understand their costs and operate more efficiently.
Throughout his tenure at Merchant Processing Solutions, Mr. Baillio has prioritized educating business owners about the intricacies of card processing. He takes pride in demystifying monthly statements — often rendered incomprehensible by the hundreds of pricing tiers used by major card companies — and ensuring that his clients are fully informed about how these systems impact their bottom line. His ethical commitment, which he refers to as the "sense of omission," underscores his mission to empower small businesses with knowledge and cost-saving solutions.
Prior to reaching his current leadership role, Mr. Baillio excelled as both president and chief executive officer of Bancard S.A. from 1992 to 2007. Over the course of 15 years, he continued to build on his reputation for innovation and simplicity in payment processing. His move from Virginia to Maryland marked a significant transition in his professional journey, allowing him to utilize his sales and marketing experience to further expand his influence within financial solutions and business ownership.
Beginning his career at Universal Travel (now Universal Cruises and Travel) in 1981, Mr. Baillio made a significant over more than a decade as he advanced from the role of sales agent to become the company's director of sales and marketing. As he managed three offices in Northern Virginia and oversaw all aspects of sales operations, including interviewing, hiring and training new employees, he also directed a call center with 20 to 25 staff members who were responsible for reaching out to businesses across the region. Demonstrating exceptional leadership skills, he built a sales team of 12 to 15 representatives who served the Washington metropolitan area and expanded operations by opening additional offices in San Diego, Atlanta and Naples, Florida.
Before venturing onto his vocational path, Mr. Baillio pursued higher education and earned a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from The Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1979. Graduating near the top of his class, he initially aspired to attend veterinary school and secured interviews with several prestigious institutions including the University of Georgia, Tuskegee Institute and Auburn University. Despite excelling academically, challenges with standardized testing prevented him from securing one of the highly competitive slots available at that time. Nevertheless, the analytical skills he developed during his studies have contributed significantly to his ability to navigate complex business environments.
Mr. Baillio's expertise in sales and marketing is supported by his commitment to continuous professional and personal development. Throughout the early stages of his career, he enrolled in numerous classes and training programs that focused on refining his skills in these areas; this dedication laid much of the groundwork for his later impact as a business owner and industry leader.
In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Baillio has demonstrated a strong devotion to civic engagement and philanthropy. In 2013, he founded the International Fallen Riders Relief Fund (IFRRF), which provides financial assistance to individuals involved in motorcycle accidents who face uncovered medical expenses. Inspired by a lifelong passion for motorcycles and influenced by close friendships within the motorsports community — including 25-time world champion Larry McBride — Mr. Baillio has dedicated himself to supporting injured riders without drawing any personal compensation from the nonprofit.
Mr. Baillio's outstanding volunteer work also extends to organizations such as the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society, Doctors Without Borders, Save the Children and the Wounded Warrior Project, reflecting his deep-seated desire to give back to both local communities and broader humanitarian causes.
On a personal level, Mr. Baillio has been happily married for more than 25 years and takes great pride in his family's accomplishments. His son Brandon is a computer engineer at Capital One following five years at Deutsche Bank, while his daughter is an engineer who graduated from Pennsylvania State University and now works for a company based in Maryland.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Baillio intends to gradually step back from day-to-day operations at Merchant Processing Solutions, potentially entrusting its leadership responsibilities to his management team or exploring opportunities with interested firms seeking integration or acquisition. He anticipates dedicating more time to IFRRF's mission of supporting injured riders through education, safety and training initiatives while continuing to travel with his wife and pursue their shared interests in exploration and adventure.
