SLATON, TX, July 13, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sarah R. Weede has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
A United States Air Force veteran, emergency management professional, and nationally recognized veterans advocate, Ms. Weede has dedicated her life to serving those who have served our nation. Throughout her military and civilian career, she has remained steadfast in her commitment to ensuring veterans receive the dignity, respect, and care they have earned through their sacrifice.
As the inaugural director of the West Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Lubbock, Texas, Ms. Weede oversees the operations of one of the state's newest veterans cemeteries. Under her leadership, the cemetery has become a place of honor, reflection, and remembrance for veterans and their eligible family members throughout West Texas. She is responsible for ensuring every burial is conducted with the highest level of professionalism, compassion, and military dignity while maintaining the cemetery to the standards worthy of those who defended our nation.
In addition to overseeing cemetery operations, Ms. Weede works closely with funeral homes, veterans service organizations, local governments, and community leaders to educate families about veterans' burial benefits and simplify what is often one of the most difficult moments in their lives. She is a frequent speaker throughout Texas, presenting on veterans' benefits, military funeral honors, cemetery eligibility, and the challenges facing today's veteran community.
Her passion for serving veterans extends well beyond her professional responsibilities. Ms. Weede has devoted years of volunteer service and leadership within the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), serving in leadership roles at the post, district, department, and national levels. She currently serves as Commander of VFW Post 2466, Senior Vice Commander for VFW District 9, Chair of the Department of Texas Women Veterans Committee, a member of the VFW National Women Veterans Advisory Council, and a member of the VFW National Legislative Committee. Through these roles, she advocates for legislation that improves the lives of veterans and military families while mentoring future generations of veteran leaders and strengthening veteran communities across Texas and the nation.
Before leading the West Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Ms. Weede served as Assistant Director of Emergency Management at Texas Tech University, where she developed emergency preparedness, continuity of operations, and crisis response programs for one of the nation's largest university systems. She also served as an Emergency Preparedness Planner for the City of Lubbock Public Health Department, coordinating with local, state, and federal agencies to strengthen emergency planning and public health preparedness.
Prior to her civilian career, Ms. Weede proudly served ten years in the United States Air Force as an Airborne Mission Systems Operator aboard the E-8C JSTARS aircraft. Throughout her military career, she earned numerous distinctions for leadership, instruction, operational excellence, and mission readiness.
One of the defining moments of her military service came when she became the first enlisted Air Force member selected to attend the prestigious Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1) Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course—an opportunity traditionally reserved for officers. Her determination to challenge long-standing barriers and earn her place among the nation's premier warfighters exemplified the perseverance, courage, and leadership that continue to define her career today.
Ms. Weede holds a Master of Science in Fire and Emergency Management Administration from Oklahoma State University, a Bachelor of Arts in Homeland Security from American Military University, and an Associate of Applied Science in Air and Space Operations Technology from the Community College of the Air Force. She is also a Certified Business Continuity Professional and holds numerous certifications in emergency management and occupational safety.
Throughout her career, Ms. Weede has received numerous honors recognizing her leadership and commitment to service, including Air Combat Command Instructor of the Year, Ninth Air Force Noncommissioned Officer of the Year, the John L. Levitow Award, and multiple leadership awards from both the United States Air Force and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Ms. Weede attributes her success first and foremost to her faith in God and to the values instilled in her by her parents: integrity, humility, perseverance, hard work, and compassion for others. Those values have shaped every stage of her career and continue to guide her commitment to servant leadership.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Ms. Weede considers her greatest achievement to be raising her three children—Maddux, Lydia, and Maverick. She is deeply committed to instilling in them the values that have guided her own life: faith in God, love of country, integrity, personal responsibility, and service to others. Her greatest hope is to raise them to become God-fearing patriots who cherish the freedoms of the United States, appreciate the sacrifices made by those who came before them, and understand the importance of serving something greater than themselves.
Outside of her professional and volunteer commitments, Ms. Weede enjoys spending time with her children on their ranch, reading military history and leadership books, maintaining an active lifestyle through strength training, and practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. She believes physical health is foundational to mental and emotional well-being—a philosophy that complements her passion for resilience, veteran suicide prevention, and overall wellness. Whether encouraging veterans to seek help, organizing events that strengthen community, or leading by example through discipline and fitness, she believes caring for both the body and mind is essential to living a life of purpose.
Looking ahead, Ms. Weede remains committed to expanding services for veterans and their families, strengthening advocacy efforts at the local, state, and national levels, and ensuring future generations understand the sacrifices made by America's service members. She hopes to continue building partnerships that improve the lives of veterans while inspiring young Americans to embrace lives of service, leadership, and patriotism.
Whether leading a state veterans cemetery, advocating before lawmakers, organizing suicide prevention initiatives, mentoring fellow veterans, or raising her children, Sarah R. Weede has dedicated her life to serving others. Guided by her faith, her love of country, and her commitment to future generations, she continues to honor those who served while striving to leave America stronger than she found it. For Ms. Weede, leadership is not measured by titles or awards, but by a life of service, unwavering character, and the positive impact she leaves on those around her.
