Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Marshall has established himself as a leading expert in high-end custom fabrication, currently serving as the co-owner of Hill & Hammer LLC since 2021. A significant aspect of his professional commitment and development involves hand drawing and design skills, a practice he supports through daily drawing exercises and group drawing excursions, to continually strengthen his creative abilities.
Prior to his current position, Mr. Marshall was a production coordinator at Accomplice in Texas from 2019 to 2020. During this period, he managed the fabrication team and the coordination of production activities, ensuring seamless project execution and fostering collaboration among team members. His responsibilities included logistical planning and the implementation of creative solutions for complex design challenges.
From 2010 to 2013, Mr. Marshall held the role of studio manager at MDJ Studio in New York. Earlier in his career, Mr. Marshall served as an installation technician at the Blanton Museum of Art in Texas from 2004 to 2007. He was instrumental in the installation of the Museum's inaugural exhibitions, working closely with curators and artists to ensure the integrity and presentation of artwork.
Among Mr. Marshall's most notable achievements is his solo exhibition at Grimm Gallery on Bowery Street in New York City in 2018. This event marked the culmination of more than a decade of dedicated fine art practice and holds particular significance due to the historic and artistic importance of the Bowery location. The exhibition stands as a testament to Mr. Marshall's perseverance and success within the competitive world of fine art.
Mr. Marshall's educational background has played a pivotal role in shaping his career trajectory. He earned a Master of Fine Arts in painting from the School of the Arts at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond in 2010. After completing his master's degree, Mr. Marshall worked as a studio manager for an artist in New York before transitioning into design and fabrication roles. His expertise encompasses metalwork, carpentry, and team management, skills that have culminated in his current focus on high-end custom projects in Austin.
Civic engagement is another important aspect of Mr. Marshall's life. He maintains involvement with organizations such as the Boy Scouts of America and was recognized with the Eagle Scout award by the Boy Scouts of America in 1997. He embodies his love of nature by hosting park cleanups several times a year with his business partner at Hill & Hammer.
Born in Morgantown, West Virginia, Mr. Marshall resides in Central Austin with his family, where he has spent nearly a decade developing a home studio and workshop on property with deep personal significance. He is deeply connected to Central Texas, nurturing a passion for its history, land, flora and fauna, a connection he shares with his family through hiking and camping excursions. His personal interests include hiking, camping, field sketching, watercoloring, daily drawing practice and meditation.
Looking ahead, Mr. Marshall intends to reintroduce his fine artwork to the public through exhibitions and gallery shows following a period of private development. He also aims to make outdoor learning and nature-based playground construction central to his business endeavors by emphasizing sustainable designs that utilize locally sourced indigenous materials. Through these efforts, he seeks to integrate biophilic design principles with community values to benefit children and families throughout Central Texas.
