LEVITTOWN, PA, July 21, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Miguel Gonzalez Nunez has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Currently serving as a Senior Research Scientist at MISTRAS Group, Inc. in New Jersey, Dr. Gonzalez Nunez has led a distinguished career at the intersection of corrosion engineering, research and non-destructive testing. In this capacity since 2010, he conducts feasibility studies on acoustic emission applications, develops wireless acoustic emission sensor networks and monitors bridge structures for corrosion and premature cracking.

Dr. Gonzalez Nunez's expertise extends to testing and inspecting welds in pipelines, collaborating on research projects as well as reviewing and developing acoustic emission testing standards to ensure safety and quality are upheld in equal measure. Also known for his dedication to mentoring younger colleagues, he is happy to provide advice and share his technical knowledge within the organization.

Prior to joining MISTRAS Group, Dr. Gonzalez Nunez spent nearly two decades at the Electrical Research Institute (IIE) in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico, where he held the roles of research scientist and project manager from 1991 to 2010. During this period, he contributed significantly to the advancement of non-destructive testing technologies and managed multiple research initiatives in support of national energy infrastructure.

Throughout his 35-year professional journey, Dr. Gonzalez Nunez has achieved several notable milestones. In addition to being widely recognized for his expertise in non-destructive testing, he has successfully secured two patents: one for the online monitoring of additive manufacturing using acoustic emission methods, granted in 2023, and another for dome-shape tuning fork transducers for corrosion monitoring, awarded in 2020.

Another of Dr. Gonzalez Nunez's most significant professional accomplishments is his five-year collaboration with the National Institute of Standards and Technology and several universities — including the University of Miami, the University of South Carolina and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University — on an innovative wireless acoustic emission sensor network for bridge monitoring. This project resulted in a four-channel wireless node capable of collecting and processing data before transmitting it wirelessly, supporting advanced testing technologies for wind and gas turbines as well as ongoing bridge monitoring across the United States and Europe.

Alongside his primary roles, Dr. Gonzalez Nunez is an active member of the American Society for Nondestructive Testing and the Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP), reflecting his longstanding commitment to professional development and enhancing industry standards. Likewise, his scholarly contributions include co-authoring a chapter on acoustic emission related to corrosion detection for a book published by Elsevier in 2013 — a work that has been regarded as a critical contribution to the field.

Hailing from an equally accomplished academic background, Dr. Gonzalez Nunez earned a Doctor of Philosophy in corrosion engineering from The University of Manchester in 1998 — a milestone he considers his most notable achievement. He also holds a Master of Science in corrosion engineering from The University of Manchester, completed in 1994, and a Bachelor of Science in metallurgical engineering from Instituto Politécnico Nacional, obtained in 1991. To augment his qualifications, he earned the level III certification in acoustic emission from the American Society for Nondestructive Testing in 2018.

Reflecting on his storied journey to date, Dr. Gonzalez Nunez attributes much of his success to a lifelong commitment to sharing knowledge and mentoring others. He believes that independence, continuous learning and responsible knowledge transfer are essential not only for personal growth but also for advancing disciplines as a whole. Inspired by his father's encouragement to achieve meaningful goals, he initially aspired simply to become an engineer but soon discovered broader opportunities that have allowed him to make lasting contributions to both science and technology.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Dr. Gonzalez Nunez is deeply involved in civic activities through his local church, where he has served as a choir director since 2010 and helps lead the Hispanic community committee. His leadership was evident when he organized a large family gathering that raised funds for church activities with over 300 attendees. Fluent in both English and Spanish, he plays guitar during services and uses his language skills to connect diverse communities within the congregation.

Also a devoted family man, Dr. Gonzalez Nunez has been happily married to his wife Adriana since 2002. Together they have raised four accomplished adult children: Carla Alexandra, a language teacher with experience in dance and choreography; Daniel, a commercial pilot based in Colorado Springs who is also a father; Michelle, who works as a flight attendant for Emirates Airlines in Dubai; and their youngest son who is pursuing a private pilot's license.

Determined to further his impact in the coming years, Dr. Gonzalez Nunez intends to focus the next chapter of his career on teaching and transferring knowledge to the next generation of engineers and researchers. He remains committed to giving back by educating future professionals so that the extensive expertise he has accumulated will continue benefiting others long into the future.
