BROKEN ARROW, OK, August 03, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Tim K. Baker has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Baker, born in Oklahoma, the capital of the Cherokee Nation, the largest Native American tribe in the U.S., has built a distinguished legal career spanning over 50 years. Since 2015, he has served as the senior vice president and general counsel for Cherokee Nation Businesses, where he oversees all legal matters for an enterprise employing 10,000 individuals and manages trial work for nearly a dozen casinos. In this capacity, Mr. Baker has been instrumental in guiding the company through complex legal challenges, drawing on his extensive experience and reputation for integrity. His leadership has contributed to the continued growth and stability of Cherokee Nation Businesses, reinforcing its prominence within both the tribal and broader business communities.
Before his current role, Mr. Baker maintained a private law practice in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, from 1973 to 2015. Over four decades, he established himself as a formidable trial attorney with hundreds of trial wins. He handled numerous murder cases, thousands of divorce proceedings and hundreds of condemnation cases representing landowners against the State of Oklahoma. Additionally, he managed many federal and civil cases. Mr. Baker's commitment to excellence earned him a large clientele and the respect of peers, judges and district attorneys alike. Notably, former adversaries often sought his representation after witnessing his skill and dedication in court, a testament to his professional reputation.
Mr. Baker's academic journey began at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science and history with a minor in chemistry. His grandparents, parents and brother also graduated from Northeastern State University, following a family tradition of academic achievement. Initially considering a career as a veterinarian, Mr. Baker taught chemistry and coached three sports before pursuing law. He attended Oklahoma City University at night while continuing his teaching responsibilities, ultimately earning a Doctor of Jurisprudence on campus.
During his experiences as an educator and coach, Mr. Baker shaped his approach to law, emphasizing preparation, adaptability and unwavering honesty. Among just a small number of attorneys in Tahlequah when he began practicing in 1973, he quickly became adept at handling diverse legal matters but found his calling in trial work. Mr. Baker attributes his success to steadfast principles that include always being truthful, thoroughly prepared, and earning client trust through diligence and reliability.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Baker has demonstrated a strong commitment to civic engagement in Tahlequah; in fact, last year, Tahlequah's local hospital, Northeastern Health Services, recognized him with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his services to the hospital. He served as the president of the quarterback club for both Northeastern State University and Tahlequah High School, as the president of the local school board and as a coach for several little league football, wrestling, soccer and baseball teams. These roles reflect Mr. Baker's dedication to supporting youth development and education within his community.
Throughout more than five decades in law, Mr. Baker's legacy is marked by integrity, excellence in trial advocacy and meaningful contributions to both the legal profession and his community. Mr. Baker remains committed to supporting his grandchildren's educational pursuits while maintaining the high standard of performance that has defined his career. Mr. Baker is proud of his Cherokee heritage and enjoys serving his tribe as General Counsel of Cherokee Nation Businesses.
