Since 1981, Dr. Har-El has served as president and CEO of Har-El Financial Group, based in Illinois. Under his guidance, the firm has provided financial services for over 45 years, earning him in 1995 induction into the Hall of Fame of Equitable Advisors—his parent company, a major player in the financial services industry—an achievement he regards as his most notable professional milestone. His expertise in retirement income plans, financial protection strategies, and wealth management has been recognized through numerous accolades, including the Golden Year Award for three decades of high-level sales production, the Golden Life Award in 2015, the Silver Medal of Honor in 2010, and the Distinguished Service Award in 2005.

In addition to his business leadership, Dr. Har-El is also the founder and president of the Middle East Peace Network (MEPN), a nonprofit organization established in 1990 as a catalyst for private diplomacy and reconciliation efforts within the Arab-Israeli and Jewish-Muslim conflicts. For more than three decades, he has directed this ambitious initiative, building bridges of understanding on a global scale. His expertise in Arab-Israeli conflict resolution and Jewish-Muslim reconciliation is widely recognized, and he has contributed to public discourse through lectures, workshops and essays on Middle Eastern affairs.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Har-El was a lecturer and research fellow at Tel Aviv University from 1968 to 1976. During this period, he worked at the Shiloah Center—now known as the Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies—where he managed the Palestinian Desk and contributed to the Middle East Record publication. His academic pursuits were complemented by active military service as he served as an officer in the Israeli Army before immigrating to the United States in 1976, including active duty from 1964 to 1966 and subsequent service from 1969 to 1971. He participated in the Six-Day War (1967), the War of Attrition (1969-1970) and the Yom Kippur War (1973).

Dr. Har-El's academic achievements have been foundational to his professional success. He earned a PhD from The University of Chicago's Department of History in 1993. His doctoral dissertation, Struggle for Domination in the Middle East: The Ottoman-Mamluk War, 1485-1491, was published shortly after completion and later translated into Turkish. He also holds an MA in Middle Eastern history from Tel Aviv University, awarded in 1976, as well as a BA in Middle Eastern history from Tel Aviv University, completed in 1971. In recognition of his mastery of Jewish studies, spiritual leadership, and dedication to the community, Dr. Har-El became an ordained rabbi in 2012. His new book, Discover the Jewel of Wisdom: Eight Paths to Powerful Living, is a "living laboratory" report of his own personal findings while plowing the "fields" of life and his spiritual journey toward rabbinic ordination.

Throughout his career, Dr. Har-El has been featured in several video interviews that highlight his thought leadership and advocacy for peace, including "Middle East Peace Network – Overview with Shai Y. His history publications include China and the Palestinian Organizations: 1964–1971, In Search for Israeli-Palestinian Peace: An Urgent Call for a New Approach to Middle East Peace, and Where Islam and Judaism Join Together: A Perspective on Reconciliation, among others. He is also the author of poetry books, Riding the Waves of Bliss: Selected Poems from the Season of Life, A Tale of Two Souls, and Yashar MeHalev: Mivchar Shirei Ahava [Straight from the Heart: An Anthology of Love Poems, in Hebrew], as well as two family legacy books, numerous essays and news reports on current Middle East affairs, and self-help spiritual writings.

Reflecting on his career, Dr. Har-El attributes his enduring success to a lifelong drive for achievement that began early in his youth. This quality has propelled him through diverse fields like academia, military service, business leadership and interfaith activism—earning him respect as a super achiever among peers.

Dr. Har-El was married to Rosalie of blessed memory for 50 years. He has 3 children and 11 grandchildren. Outside his professional endeavors, Dr. Har-El enjoys walking daily and values time spent with his children and friends. Looking ahead, he remains committed to continuing his work as an author with plans to write additional books that contribute to scholarship and dialogue on issues central to his life.
