Most recently, he served as a medical laboratory scientist at Oregon Health & Science University, where he was responsible for performing phlebotomy, collecting and processing patient specimens, verifying quality control measures, evaluating test results and releasing laboratory findings for physician review and diagnosis. His tenure at the university was marked by his commitment to accuracy and innovation, particularly as he witnessed and contributed to the transformation of laboratory testing from manual methods to highly automated systems.

From 1974 to 2010, Mr. Christensen held the position of medical laboratory scientist at Adventist Health, during which time he became an authority in clinical chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, blood banking and general laboratory practice. His early years in the field were characterized by labor-intensive processes such as glucose testing in test tubes, which required heating samples over a flame before they could be analyzed. The operational challenges posed by these manual techniques were significant, including variability in results and delays that could compromise reliability.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Christensen played a pivotal role in adopting much of the automated instrumentation that went on to revolutionize laboratory operations; these advancements enabled laboratories to process multiple analyses simultaneously, significantly reducing costs and improving consistency. Physicians increasingly relied on the accuracy of automated results for critical diagnoses — a development he regards as one of the most significant achievements in laboratory medicine.

In addition to his work at Oregon Health & Science University, Mr. Christensen contributed 10 years of service at United Medical Laboratories, further refining his technical abilities and deepening his understanding of specimen analysis and quality assurance. His earlier experience at Tillamook Hospital, where he also served for a decade, provided him with foundational knowledge in laboratory procedures and patient care.

Alongside his primary roles, Mr. Christensen has maintained active membership in the American Society for Clinical Pathology, further reflecting his commitment to professional development and industry standards.

Hailing from an equally accomplished academic background, Mr. Christensen earned a Master of Public Health from Loma Linda University as well as a Bachelor of Science in medical laboratory science from Warner Pacific University in 1968. He began his higher education by obtaining a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Portland State University in 1965 — a foundation that enhanced his problem-solving abilities and supported his later work with complex data analysis.

Mr. Christensen's educational achievements are complemented by a longstanding personal philosophy that remains deeply rooted in his faith. Reflecting on his storied journey to date, he attributes his success to his faith in Jesus Christ, whom he considers his highest priority.

Beyond his career accomplishments, Mr. Christensen is actively involved with his local church community of approximately 600 members. He serves as both a deacon and an elder and regularly leads services, underscoring his dedication to service and leadership within the congregation.

Born at Adventist Medical Center in Portland, Oregon — the location that would later become the site of the laboratory where he worked for many years — Mr. Christensen's story has come full circle in unique ways that he recognizes and values deeply. Also the proud father of two sons, he cherishes spending time with his grandchildren and maintains an active lifestyle through hobbies such as gardening, cultivating flowers and maintaining plants around his home.
