BUELLTON, CA, August 18, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joel Baker has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Baker has demonstrated a remarkable commitment to his profession, maintaining a distinguished career in financial and estate planning for five decades. Since 1982, he has served as owner of the JR Baker Group, where a diverse clientele, including individuals of significant means, has sought his expertise. Throughout this tenure, Mr. Baker has focused on helping clients recognize and pursue their true wealth, emphasizing fulfillment over material accumulation. He is particularly proud of living out the dreams he envisioned as a young boy — walking horses at Will Rogers Polo Field and aspiring to a lifestyle that balances professional achievement with personal happiness. This dedication to guiding others toward meaningful success sets him apart in his field.

Before founding the JR Baker Group, Mr. Baker co-owned Baker Hench, Balanced Financial Planning, where he and his partner pioneered "fee-based" planning strategies that prioritized client needs rather than product sales. This approach reflected his early commitment to integrity and innovation within the financial sector. His career began at Great-West Life Assurance Company in Winnipeg, Canada, where he spent approximately four years working with large group clients such as McDonnell Douglas Aircraft. These formative experiences provided a strong foundation for his later independent practice.

In addition to his work in financial services, Mr. Baker achieved recognition as a professional polo player, balancing this demanding sport alongside his business responsibilities for many years. His expertise in professional polo is further underscored by his being selected to coach 3 US National teams in the World Championships.

Mr. Baker's educational background includes earning a Bachelor of Arts in Business from Fort Lewis College in 1968. He credits much of his early success to the guidance of mentors and the steadfast support of his parents. Growing up in Pasadena, he benefited from a family environment that valued hard work, outdoor adventure and perseverance despite modest means. Family trips to the Sierras and summers spent camping instilled resilience and resourcefulness that would later inform both his career and personal pursuits.

Following graduation from college and selection for the United States ski team in 1968, Mr. Baker began working at a financial institution in downtown Los Angeles while also returning to competitive polo. His early professional journey included approximately 10 weeks of law school coursework before his roommate introduced him to Gus Hansch, a prominent general agent for Mutual Benefit. This connection led Mr. Baker into the field of financial planning at a time when options were limited primarily to life insurance or stock brokerage roles.

Throughout his career, Mr. Baker has been recognized for his ability to balance multiple interests — from building successful financial practices to excelling as a professional athlete — while maintaining a focus on personal fulfillment and client well-being.

Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Baker's personal life reflects deep commitments to mentorship and community engagement. He has been married to Charlotte Bredahl for 35 years, with whom he has shared a partnership spanning four decades. Ms. Bredahl's accomplishment as a bronze medalist at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics is a source of pride within their family history. Although they chose not to have children due to their active lifestyles, together they have mentored approximately 10 children over the years, demonstrating their enduring love for youth development.

Mr. Baker enjoys raising polo ponies and playing tennis during his leisure time. Looking ahead, he aims to continue these activities while pursuing an ambitious goal: establishing a nationwide foster program designed to address gaps within the current system, particularly within his county. His vision includes acquiring land and creating a facility modeled after private schools, where children unable to remain with their families would receive care and support from dedicated therapists.

Throughout every stage of his life and career, Mr. Baker's actions have been guided by values rooted in family tradition, mentorship and service, qualities that continue to shape both his legacy and ongoing contributions to society.
