Mr. Petrie, an executive leader, global mentor and cybersecurity professional, currently serves as the president of The Petrie Group, a strategic technology and cybersecurity consulting firm he founded in July 2014. In this capacity, he manages a small staff, supports approximately six client contracts and dedicates significant time to mentoring and light teaching. His leadership at The Petrie Group is characterized by his focus on executive management, strategic security and the advancement of cybersecurity practices across industries.

Additionally, Mr. Petrie continues to support NTT Security Holdings as counselor to the chief executive officer, providing strategic guidance and advice to company leadership. He develops strategic plans and sits on the executive committee, where his insight primarily addresses cybersecurity matters.

Mr. Petrie's advisory role follows a decade-long tenure with NTT, which began in December 2015. Over those 10 years, he advanced through several senior positions, including global chief information security officer for NTT Security, chief executive officer of NTT Security Americas and senior vice president within the Japanese holding company. His responsibilities spanned both cybersecurity leadership and executive management, including budget and revenue performance during his two terms as chief executive officer of the security company. He retired from NTT Holdings in July 2025.

Earlier, Mr. Petrie worked as an executive consultant at IBM from 2014 to 2016, where he briefed boards of directors across various industries. Prior to joining IBM, he spent a decade at Harland Clarke Holdings Corp., progressing from executive director and chief information security officer to senior vice president and chief information security strategist before retiring from the organization in 2014.

Mr. Petrie's previous roles included chief information security officer at UTHSCSA from 2002 to 2004; general manager and director of security at Trendec in 2001; consulting services manager and senior principal consultant at Netigy Corporation between 1999 and 2001; and services delivery manager at Sprint Paranet from 1998 to 1999. He began his civilian career as a systems security analyst with Lucent Technologies in 1996.

Beyond his professional roles, Mr. Petrie's expertise is further reflected in his ongoing involvement as a limited partner with LEAD Cyber Interest Group, RNP Capital Advisors and Grossman Ventures since 2025. He also serves on several advisory boards, including NightDragon and ISTARI since 2023, Team8 since 2022 and Morphisec since 2017. Additionally, he has contributed as a member of the board of advisors for the UTSA College of AI, Cyber and Computing from 2024 to 2026 and served on the board of the Cyber Threat Alliance between 2019 and 2023.

A significant portion of Mr. Petrie's career is rooted in his service with the United States Marine Corps, where he retired as intelligence chief after two decades from 1976 to 1996. His military background provided him with rigorous technical training in intelligence operations, special assignments involving space and satellite technology and extensive exposure to computers and mainframes. This foundation enabled his transition into the corporate sector with a focus on strategic security and cybersecurity.

Throughout his career, Mr. Petrie has been recognized for his commitment to mentoring younger professionals entering the field. He takes particular pride in supporting women in technology, noting their underrepresentation in cybersecurity leadership roles. As the father of three daughters, he has actively mentored women moving into executive positions and has leveraged his board service to open doors for others in the industry.

Mr. Petrie's academic achievements include earning a Master of Business Administration from City University of Seattle in 2004 and a Bachelor of Science in international studies from State University of New York in 1995. His international experience — living and working across multiple countries — has been instrumental to his success, particularly during his tenure with NTT in Japan. He credits his action-oriented leadership style and ability to build cohesive teams as key factors that have shaped his career trajectory.

Complementing his professional experience, Mr. Petrie has maintained a longstanding commitment to the Information Security Systems Association, serving on the Texas chapter's local board since 2000 and holding various board positions, including president. He is also active on multiple cybersecurity advisory boards.

Mr. Petrie's contributions have been recognized through numerous awards, including being named a Distinguished Fellow of ISSA International, effective September 2026, and one of the Top 50 Global Thought Leaders and Influencers on Analytics by Thinkers360 in 2025. He also earned a Top 50 ranking on the Knowledge Leaders and Influencers List and was named runner-up for Cybersecurity Executive of the Year in 2007. In addition, he has received individual recognition awards from IBM, NTT DATA Inc. and Harland Clarke Holdings Corp., along with multiple military service awards from the United States Marine Corps.

In addition to these accolades, Mr. Petrie authored "From Private to CEO (And Some Stuff In Between)" through Cumulus Publishing in 2019, a book designed as a guide for professionals aspiring to leadership roles while addressing common pitfalls encountered along the way. Earlier works include co-authoring "Basic Unix System Administration" and "Introduction to ASIM/OLS" for Lucent Technologies in 1997.

Beyond his professional commitments, Mr. Petrie enjoys golfing — though he describes himself as an enthusiastic amateur — woodworking projects and cooking, drawing on skills developed during chef school attended as a youth. Since retiring for a third time in 2025, he has embraced recreational vehicle travel with his wife of more than four decades.

Looking ahead, Mr. Petrie is focused on advancing quantum computing security solutions—particularly regarding artificial intelligence integration within quantum architectures—and intends to continue mentoring emerging leaders while expanding his involvement with venture capital initiatives within cybersecurity innovation circles.
