Since 1990, he has also worked as an appraiser and valuer specializing in ethnographic art, operating independently alongside his other roles. From 2003 to 2017, he contributed as senior consultant to The Bakuba Archives LLC USA, lending his expertise in African art and culture.

Between 2005 and 2011, Rodolitz directed the African and Oceanic Art Department at Bonhams in New York. During his tenure, he consolidated the firm's previously scattered African and Oceanic art holdings from England, California to New York creating a unified global department and becoming its first director. He achieved record prices on pieces and sales, but found the formalities of the fine art world at odds with his blue-collar upbringing.

Previously, Dr. Rodolitz was the director of Graven Images Ltd gallery in the Soho section of New York City and later the president of Ethnos Enterprises Inc. in the New York City metropolitan area from 1995 to 2006, where he further developed his reputation in the field of indigenous arts. From 1993 to 1995, he served as assistant editor for the St. Petersburg Journal of African Studies in Russia while also holding an associate position at the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkamera) from 1992 to 1994 where he studied with anthropologist and human rights activist Nikolai Girenko as his advisor.

After returning to the United States, Rodolitz founded Man's Heritage Press, a publishing company he led for several years focusing on publishing translations of Russian ethnographic works.

Rodolitz's professional memberships reflect both diverse scholarly and appraisal achievements. He is a certified member of International Fine Art Appraisers, and was the first American anthropologist admitted to the St. Petersburg Union of Scientists and Scholars — a milestone that underscores his international recognition. Additionally, his fascination with human consciousness and indigenous healing led him to become a board-certified member of the National Guild of Hypnotists, and he maintains a practice to this day specializing in sleep disorders and pain management.

Dr. Rodolitz's academic background includes his Candidataskaya work in anthropology from Kunstkamera; Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg, Russia. He earned a bachelor's degree in anthropology as well as a degree in philosophy and comparative religions, specializing in process-philosophy from Hofstra University after beginning undergraduate coursework at New York University in anthropology, philosophy and comparative religion.

A strong work ethic instilled by his parents shaped Dr. Rodolitz's approach to both challenges and successes throughout his career. Raised in Brooklyn within a family of plumbers spanning five generations, he learned early lessons about perseverance and humility while working industrial jobs alongside family members before ultimately choosing academia over the trade.

Rodolitz's civic involvement includes discreet charitable giving to organizations motivated by personal conviction rather than recognition or tax benefits.

As an author and curator, Dr. Rodolitz has published several books on African art, including titles recognized with industry awards. His more recent publications in memoir include "Between Fortunes: Six Rememberings Of Harry Smith," released by QCC Art Gallery Press at City University of New York (CUNY) in 2026; "Ancestors," co-authored with PogoBooks in 2016; and "The Face of Sunset," co-authored with Zarya Publications in 2012. He has curated seven or eight exhibitions over the years, including one currently running at CUNY.

Beyond professional achievements, Dr. Rodolitz values his role as a husband and father above all else, regarding these personal milestones as among his greatest accomplishments. In his personal life, he enjoys writing, dog walking and gardening — particularly cultivating irises — as well as studying pysanky, a passion inspired decades ago by Harry Smith that now includes collaboration with numerous Ukrainian experts and an upcoming book and exhibition at CUNY.

Looking ahead, Dr. Rodolitz remains committed to educating the public about indigenous art while continuing to write both works of art history and personal observational memoirs that document not only other cultures but also his own unique journey through life's many chapters. Rodolitz remains content with how his work is understood, noting that while his African art scholarship tends to receive more attention than his memoir writing, both are rightly recognized as part of one unified body of work.
