Since 2008, she has served as a registered nurse at Sharp Memorial Hospital, part of Sharp HealthCare in San Diego, California. In her current capacity as an advanced clinician in palliative care, she is recognized for her compassionate approach and dedication to guiding new nurses while helping families navigate complex medical decisions, often providing clarity on sensitive matters such as end-of-life care. Her ability to foster understanding and comfort during these moments has earned her the respect of colleagues and the gratitude of countless families.

Throughout her tenure at Sharp Memorial, Ms. Jackson has explored various specialties to refine her skills and discover her professional niche. She began her journey on the transplant unit, widely regarded as the most challenging floor in the hospital. Seeking broader experience, she transitioned to an acute care floor for two years before joining the progressive care unit on a heart failure floor, where she served for eight and a half years. During this period, she also contributed part-time to the oncology unit, building close relationships with both patients and staff.

In 2017, after completing a master's degree in Phoenix, Arizona, Ms. Jackson accepted a part-time teaching position at Brightwood College in San Diego, where she taught acute care nursing to new nurses while continuing her clinical work in oncology. Upon being offered a full-time teaching role, she made the decision to leave Sharp Memorial Hospital; however, following Brightwood College's closure later that year, she returned to Sharp Memorial within six months. She then joined the newly established stroke unit for two and a half years before advancing to her current role in palliative care.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Jackson gained foundational experience as a certified nurse assistant and nurse extern at Pomerado Health (now Palomar Health) from 2007 to 2008. She also worked part-time at Del Mar Physical Therapy and previously held the position of executive secretary before and during her early years in healthcare.

Alongside her primary roles, Ms. Jackson is an active member of the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association, the Coalition for Compassionate Care of California and American Nurses Association (ANA) California. Her research interests focus on compassion fatigue and nurse burnout — issues she has personally encountered alongside her colleagues since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. She will soon be working as co-chair of the hospital's unit practice council with the spiritual care team, to co-lead initiatives that integrate spiritual support with palliative hospice care to support bedside RNs as they care for patients and their families during end-of-life journeys.

Hailing from an equally accomplished academic background, Ms. Jackson earned a Master of Science in Nursing from Grand Canyon University in 2017, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from San Diego State University in 2008 and an associate degree from San Diego Community College District in 2001. Her educational path was shaped by her early experiences as an executive secretary — a role she held after attending Southwestern Oklahoma State University — and by significant life events that led her from her hometown of Yukon, Oklahoma, to Honolulu, Hawaii, for 10 years before settling in San Diego. Inspired by the events of September 11 and motivated by a desire to serve on the front lines of healthcare, she shifted her focus from physical therapy to nursing while balancing her family responsibilities with her academic pursuits.

Ms. Jackson's achievements and exemplary dedication to helping colleagues, patients and families alike have seen her recognized with several honors over the years, including multiple Catch Me Caring Awards and two Guardian Angel Awards. She was also previously selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who in America.

Reflecting on her storied journey to date, Ms. Jackson attributes her success to her faith in God, which provides hope and guidance throughout her personal and professional life. Outside of work, she is fiercely devoted to her family, including her two sons and four grandchildren: Bronson, Dallas, Lennox and Ryker. She finds joy in spending time with them — especially visiting Southern Utah where Ryker resides — and enjoys being immersed in nature through adventurous hikes or quiet moments in the mountains. Personal wellness activities such as massages and facials are also important aspects of her self-care routine.

Determined to further her impact in the coming years, Ms. Jackson intends to expand her research efforts globally on topics such as the effects of COVID-19 on compassion fatigue and nursing burnout while continuing to teach and lead within her hospital community. Her enduring commitment to providing compassionate patient care remains central to all facets of her life and work, reflecting a longstanding legacy of humility, leadership and service to others in everything she does.
