Marked by his expertise in retirement distribution planning and a steadfast commitment to client service, Mr. Sahnow's career in financial services spans a decade and counting. As a partner in ownership and lead advisor at The Dragoo Financial Group — located in Corvallis, Oregon, and part of Northwestern Mutual — he and his team deliver comprehensive financial planning solutions to clients across the country.
With a focus on understanding each client's individual priorities and developing tailored strategies that address their needs, Mr. Sahnow's daily routine focuses on making sure every client interaction is prepared and conducted to the highest standards. As he steps into the role as primary owner following Keith Dragoo's transition toward retirement after 43 years in the profession, he is most proud of earning Mr. Dragoo's trust and being chosen to carry the firm's legacy forward — a testament to his professional integrity and dedication to fulfilling long term client promises.
Prior to assuming a leadership role, Mr. Sahnow excelled as lead advisor at Dragoo Financial from 2016 to 2022. During this period, he deepened his specialization in retirement distribution planning, guiding clients through complex decisions involving tax implications, market dynamics and estate planning considerations. Earning his Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation as well as the ChFC® (Chartered Financial Consultant) and RICP® (Retirement Income Certified Professional), lifelong learning and a commitment to maintaining expertise in the field has always been a focus.
Before entering the financial services sector, Mr. Sahnow held several leadership roles in other industries. From 2010 to 2015, he was on the sales and customer relations leadership team at brass|MEDIA, where he oversaw client engagement, product development and business marketing initiatives. Before ascending into this role, he served as the director of customer experience at the same company, focusing on enhancing service delivery, customer retention and client satisfaction.
From 1998 to 2006, Mr. Sahnow worked as an account executive at Standard Register, gaining valuable experience in consultative selling services for financial and healthcare entities.
Demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit early in his career, Mr. Sahnow co-founded National Corndog Day at Corvallis High School in 1995 and formally served as chief executive officer of National Corndog Day LLC until 2015. What began as a lighthearted event during March Madness has since grown into a nationwide tradition that reflects creativity and an ability to foster community engagement.
Furthermore, Mr. Sahnow contributed significantly to youth athletics holding various coaching positions in the basketball program at his alma mater Corvallis High School from 2003 to 2023. Serving as a youth sports coach for organizations such as AYSO, Corvallis Little League and Timberhill Athletic Club from 2010 to 2015, he demonstrated a longstanding commitment to and passion for mentoring young athletes both on and off the field.
Hailing from an equally accomplished academic background, Mr. Sahnow earned a Master of Business Administration from Oregon State University in 2005 and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with an international emphasis from the University of Puget Sound in 1997.
To augment his knowledge and industry credentials, Mr. Sahnow holds Series 7 and Series 63 licenses from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).
Reflecting on his storied journey to date, Mr. Sahnow attributes much of his success to the influence of his parents, both educators who instilled in him the values of helping others and fostering learning. He believes that listening is essential for finding solutions and that strong communication skills have been fundamental throughout every stage of his career.
Civic involvement is another integral part of Mr. Sahnow's life. Alongside his work in youth sports coaching, he provided pro bono services through the CFP Board in both 2024 and 2025 and the Firm actively supports organizations such as Old Mill, ABC House and Alex's Lemonade Stand through fundraising efforts.
In his personal life, Mr. Sahnow is happily married to Shahnaz, who is distinguished as a two-time Fulbright Scholar and former member of the Oregon Governor's Council for Literacy. Her contributions to early education literacy within the local school district are widely respected. Together they are the proud parents of two sons: Owen, who will soon complete his studies at Oregon State University after serving as manager of the college basketball team at the University of Montana with plans to continue this role at Oregon State, and Quincy, who is currently a sophomore at Colorado State University and forging his own unique academic path.
