Mr. Newsome has established a distinguished career in architecture, marked by expertise in science and technology projects as well as higher education facilities. Since 2024, he has served as senior architectural specialist at CPL, where his responsibilities include managing clients and coordinating multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects that align with client objectives. His role encompasses leading internal meetings to establish workflow and project strategy, identifying client needs, developing early conceptual designs with a focus on spatial planning and budget feasibility, advancing designs into technical detailing and advising clients on cost and longevity tradeoffs between design options. Additionally, he coordinates with contractors during construction, conducts site visits to monitor progress and oversees the completion of construction work.

Prior to joining CPL, Mr. Newsome spent one year as an architect at Flad Architects, following five years as an architectural associate at the same firm in Raleigh, North Carolina, from 2018 to 2023. During this tenure, he contributed significantly to the University of North Carolina medical school project, a nine-story building located at the heart of campus. This project spanned nearly his entire six-year period with the firm and involved complex logistical challenges related to fitting the structure into its designated site. He played a key role in guiding the project from advanced planning through completion, collaborating with large teams throughout the process.

From 2016 to 2018, Mr. Newsome worked as a designer at JDavis Architects PLLC in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area of North Carolina. In this capacity, he gained valuable experience contributing to various architectural projects prior to the firm's acquisition by another company. Earlier in his career, he completed internships with Tony Johnson Architecture in Clayton, North Carolina and Re: Vision in 2014.

Throughout his professional journey, Mr. Newsome has demonstrated a commitment to advancing sustainable practices within architecture. He has applied principles of corporate social responsibility and sustainability—first explored during his academic studies—to both his professional work and personal life. His involvement with LEED sustainability practices and participation on committees aimed at improving corporate practices reflect this dedication.

Mr. Newsome is also recognized for his scholarly contributions to architectural history. Three of his six submitted articles were selected for publication in the Society of Architectural Historians' Archipedia, covering notable historical sites in North Carolina like the Mountain Farm Museum in Cherokee, the Cherokee Mountainside Theatre and Cherry Hill in Warrenton, North Carolina. Furthermore, he maintains active membership in industry organizations, including the American Institute of Architects and NCARB.

Educationally, Mr. Newsome's educational background includes a Master of Architecture from North Carolina State University, earned in 2016. He previously completed a Bachelor of Science in architecture with a minor in corporate social responsibility at Temple University in Philadelphia in 2014. His undergraduate studies included a capstone internship with an architecture firm in Philadelphia focused on vetting construction materials for compliance with the Living Building Challenge—a rigorous sustainability standard that exceeds even LEED requirements. He also holds several professional certifications, including as a registered architect, a certification from NCARB, a LEED Green Associate credential from Green Business Certification Inc. and certification from AIA North Carolina.

Mr. Newsome's interest in architecture was sparked during childhood on his family's farm, where he built bridges and forts across creeks and developed practical skills repairing barns—abilities that continue to inform both his professional work and personal projects today. His early exposure to architecture was further shaped by participation in Odyssey of the Mind during middle school, where he constructed balsa-wood towers for problem-solving competitions and worked alongside teammates whose parents were architects.

Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Newsome is deeply engaged in civic activities and community service. Since 2022, he has served as the head coach of a boys' gymnastics team at Element Gymnastics & Sports Center, overseeing approximately thirteen athletes ages seven to fourteen and shaping the team according to his own coaching philosophy. He is also an elite team coach for men's gymnastics in North Carolina, which includes coaching at state training camps. Previously, he coached boys' gymnastics at Nick's Flippin' Kids in Clayton from 2012 to 2017. His dedication to gymnastics has been recognized through multiple awards. His community involvement also extends to singing with church choirs over multiple years and volunteering with local food banks and the Raleigh Community Garden.

In his personal life, Mr. Newsome resides in a tiny house that he has owned for several years. The home features a shotgun-style layout built on a chassis similar to a single-wide mobile home and is situated on a small homestead where he maintains a full garden. He also enjoys spending time with his family, which includes an older sister and two nieces. He has customized his residence extensively—closing in the front porch to create a sunroom, converting the back porch into a screened-in space and building custom furniture such as a coffee table, Murphy desk and pull-down Murphy bed—all skills rooted more in his upbringing on the family farm than formal architectural training.

Looking ahead, Mr. Newsome plans to continue practicing gymnastics and is committed to further developing both his architectural expertise—particularly advanced technical capabilities—and expanding his impact as a gymnastics coach by training athletes from their earliest stages through higher-level competitive levels.
