With more than two decades of experience, Mr. MacDonald has become a trusted adviser to corporations and law firms managing complex litigation, investigations, regulatory matters and information governance challenges. He currently serves as vice president of enterprise and strategic accounts at HaystackID, a global provider of electronic discovery, digital forensics, cybersecurity and legal technology services.
Since joining HaystackID in 2023, Mr. MacDonald has helped major corporations develop more coordinated, efficient and defensible approaches to electronic discovery. His work focuses on enterprise relationships, complex commercial litigation and the strategic use of technology to reduce costs, improve accuracy and give legal teams earlier access to the facts that matter.
Mr. MacDonald works on some of the most significant construction and infrastructure disputes in the United States, along with major international matters involving complex projects, substantial financial exposure and extraordinary pressure on clients. These disputes can involve enormous volumes of email, contracts, schedules, drawings, project records, mobile-device data and communications distributed across multiple organizations, law firms and jurisdictions.
Throughout his career, Mr. MacDonald has seen how fragmented eDiscovery programs can become burdened by inconsistent processes, duplicated effort and unnecessary expense. When individual matters are handled independently by different law firms and service providers, corporations may repeatedly pay to collect, process and analyze the same information while losing valuable institutional knowledge from one matter to the next.
He helps clients replace that decentralized approach with coordinated enterprise programs that provide greater control, continuity and visibility. His approach is focused on practical outcomes, defensible processes and appropriate human oversight, rather than using technology for its own sake.
Mr. MacDonald regularly hosts and participates in continuing legal education programs, industry conferences and professional roundtables. These programs bring together legal, technical and business professionals to examine best-in-class tools and workflows, how they apply to real legal challenges, and where emerging technologies can deliver meaningful improvements in speed, accuracy and cost. Before joining HaystackID, Mr. MacDonald spent approximately 16 years with Business Intelligence Associates Inc., commonly known as BIA, where he held senior leadership positions in sales and business development. He helped expand the company's business model and establish enduring relationships with corporations, governmental entities and law firms. Following HaystackID's acquisition of BIA in 2022, Mr. MacDonald joined HaystackID's leadership team, bringing those longstanding client relationships and his enterprise-focused approach to the combined organization.
Earlier in his career, Mr. MacDonald held business development and client service positions with Williams Lea, Bowne, Superior Group and Glacier Systems. He entered the legal services industry shortly after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, beginning work in Lower Manhattan during the World Trade Center recovery period. The experience helped shape the resilience, adaptability and commitment to clients that have remained hallmarks of his career.
His entrepreneurial instincts were formed much earlier. Mr. MacDonald grew up working in his parents' doughnut shops, where he learned that a successful business depends on hard work, consistency and genuine relationships with customers. Some of his most formative childhood memories were created on Martha's Vineyard, where his family operated the Island Donut Company. Away from the shops, his summers included working at Nancy's on Oak Bluffs Harbor, testing Boston Whaler's claims of being "unsinkable" and, on one particularly memorable occasion, taking a joyride with Christopher Reeve.
"I sometimes joke that I grew up in a doughnut empire, but those shops were my earliest education in business," Mr. MacDonald said. "I learned that people remember how you treat them, that your reputation follows you and that there is no substitute for showing up and doing the work. Making the best doughnuts on the planet was a pretty great bonus."
Mr. MacDonald earned a bachelor's degree in economics and history from Florida State University in 1995. He has served as a testifying expert and earned the Certified E-Discovery Specialist credential from the Association of Certified E-Discovery Specialists in 2012. ACEDS subsequently recognized him as Rainmaker of the Year, and he has received numerous other industry acknowledgments for his leadership and business development achievements.

Outside his professional responsibilities, Mr. MacDonald is an avid music fan, animal lover, collector and treasure hunter, motorcycle and muscle car enthusiast, boater, numismatist and admittedly mediocre golfer. He is also a longtime supporter of Children International. He and his wife, Belinda, have three daughters and reside in New York City.
