In 2016, he completed a Master of Business Administration at Davenport University, followed by certification as a Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner (CCRP) from The University of Tennessee in 2022. In 2025, he achieved the completion of the Companion Animal Rehabilitation Therapist program (CCAT) from North Carolina State University. Dr. Walsh also holds a bachelor's degree in public relations from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating in 1994.

Dr. Walsh's journey into veterinary medicine was influenced by early experiences and family background. Although his father was a dentist and his mother a nurse, Dr. Walsh initially pursued journalism after being discouraged from science by a teacher due to his ADHD. While volunteering with the university's athletic department and at various medical facilities, he found inspiration in the encouragement of a veterinarian who loved his work. This positive influence led Dr. Walsh to apply to veterinary school after an initial career outside the field.

After retiring early from AT&T, Dr. Walsh realized his longstanding aspiration by enrolling at St. Matthew's University in 2011. He practiced general veterinary medicine for several years before discovering the impact of physical therapy during a clinical rotation at Oklahoma State University. Witnessing dramatic patient recoveries inspired him to establish his own rehabilitation practice in 2020, where he persuaded local veterinarians to refer post-surgical patients for mobile rehabilitation services.

Throughout his career, Dr. Walsh has attributed his success to faith, persistence and determination — qualities that have helped him become an effective manager and mentor. His adaptability comes from navigating varied professional and personal challenges, reinforcing his belief that progress comes from continual forward movement. In addition to his professional endeavors, Dr. Walsh has been actively involved in civic and charitable activities. Born in Raleigh, NC, Dr. Walsh enjoys fly fishing, playing with his dog on the beach and taking cruises.
