DETROIT, MI, September 14, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gary O. Shelton, entrepreneur, real estate investor, business strategist, and CEO of Gary O. Shelton LLC, has been included in Marquis Who's Who, recognizing his entrepreneurial accomplishments, leadership, and contributions across multiple industries. As with other Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals are selected based on factors including current reference value, professional accomplishments, visibility, and prominence.
Today, Shelton is helping redefine what it takes to build and operate a successful business. As CEO of Gary O. Shelton LLC, he uses AI, AI agents, automation, and systems to operate a two-person business with the capacity of a much larger organization. He also teaches entrepreneurs how to use these technologies to increase revenue, improve profitability, reduce overhead, and create greater time freedom.
Shelton's entrepreneurial track record spans decades. He acquired his first business, Global Health, a health food store and restaurant, while still a college senior. Five years later, he sold the company after achieving his first million-dollar milestone. Since then, he has launched nine startups that each generated more than $1 million in annual revenue and acquired three additional businesses, contributing to more than $450 million in combined revenue.
His experience also includes telecommunications. Shelton acquired Source One Communications, a long-distance reseller, and merged it with Lightcom International, described in the release as the only Black-owned facilities-based telephone company in America. The company served prominent clients, including the Department of Defense, the White House, and Camp David, while employing more than 100 people and generating over $70 million in annual revenue.
Shelton's entrepreneurial ventures have extended beyond technology and telecommunications. He secured a contract to produce imprinted T-shirts for the Michigan State Lottery when it was introduced in Michigan and later expanded into an imprinted clothing line sold through Kmart and Macy's.
His interest in business and investing began early. At age four, his grandfather taught him the importance of earning and saving money. Shelton began investing in the stock market while still in middle school and had built a $25,000 investment portfolio by high school graduation in 1969.
Throughout his career, Shelton has emphasized action, resilience, learning from mistakes, and the importance of strong mentors. He credits Reginald Lewis, whom he describes as the first Black man to own a billion-dollar business, along with coaches who influenced him through Little League, high school, and college baseball and basketball.
Shelton has also dedicated significant time to mentoring and community development. He is a member of The Harvest Institute and has supported organizations including the National Urban League, Communities In Schools, and Operation HOPE.
His real estate career includes 450 fix-and-flip transactions and 420 rental units acquired. Looking ahead, Shelton is focused on helping Section 8 voucher holders transition from renting to homeownership by developing pathways to purchase renovated and newly constructed homes. He plans to begin in Detroit before expanding the initiative to other major U.S. cities.
Born in Ferndale, Michigan, Shelton considers raising his two daughters as a single parent while building his entrepreneurial career among his proudest accomplishments. His broader mission is to use his experience in business, real estate, and technology to help entrepreneurs build profitable companies, create wealth, and achieve greater freedom.
