POMPANO BEACH, FL, September 10, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Heritage Book Publishing proudly announces the release of Wabaningo by Jim Valentine.
Jim was twelve years old when he first stepped off an olive-green Army surplus truck at Camp Wabaningo, a Boy Scout camp nestled in the dense forests of Western Michigan. The year was 1950. He was 6 feet tall, weighed 150 pounds, and carried a mixture of excitement and fear about the two weeks ahead.

Seventy-six years later, Valentine has transformed that pivotal summer into Wabaningo, his work of fiction that explores how the values learned in scouting can guide a person through life's unexpected twists and turns.

"Every passage to the new environment was a fork in the road of life," Valentine reflects, quoting Yogi Berra's famous saying: "When you come to a fork in the road, take it…" to which he adds his own life philosophy: "Take whichever fork you want because it's up to you to be happy."
The novel follows Jimmie and his fellow scouts as they navigate the challenges of camp life, from mastering swimming and canoeing to earning marksmanship badges and participating in the mysterious Order of the Arrow ceremony. While the narrative captures the joy and adventure of summer camp, it also explores deeper themes of bullying, self-doubt, and finding one's place.

Why This Story Resonates Now:
Wabaningo arrives at a moment when many young people seek meaning and connection in an increasingly digital world. The novel demonstrates how structured outdoor experiences, mentorship, and peer support can help build strength, empathy, and leadership skills.
