ATLANTA, GA, September 14, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marci Joycelyn Early has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Early is recognized for her achievements in civil engineering, with a particular focus on transportation. In her current role as project engineer at HNTB, she provides engineering consulting services in the traffic engineering sector. Her responsibilities include providing consulting services and serving as an extension of staff for state departments of transportation (DOTs) and local municipalities for which she reviews and produces technical plans and reports. She also leads various traffic engineering projects such as signal designs and upgrades, intersection control evaluations and traffic studies. As deputy project manager for two Georgia Department of Transportation contracts, Ms. Early manages critical assignments, including tasks related to the Georgia National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program.
Prior to joining HNTB, Ms. Early worked as an engineer in the traffic market at Keck & Wood Inc. from 2022 to 2024. There, she performed similar engineering work but applied her skills to a different set of projects within a smaller firm. For the preceding four years, she served as a traffic analyst with NV5 in Metro Atlanta, Georgia, where she formed the foundation of her technical acumen and industry relationships.
Ms. Early's educational background has been instrumental to her success. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Arkansas in 2017 after graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Fort Valley State University (FVSU) in Fort Valley, Georgia, in 2014. She takes particular pride in having attended FVSU, a historically Black college (or) university (HBCU) that played a formative role in her academic journey. She earned a full scholarship to the university through the Cooperative Developmental Energy Program (CDEP). She is a legacy graduate of FVSU having followed in the footsteps of her grandmother, aunt, and many other extended family members.
As an undergraduate student at the University of Arkansas, Ms. Early was a student ambassador and recruiter for the University of Arkansas College of Engineering. She also served as a peer mentor for the University of Arkansas Freshman Engineering Program from 2015 to 2016, supporting new engineering students in their academic pursuits. She also worked as an ATLAS student research intern at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) in the College Station-Bryan area. The research Ms. Early performed as an undergraduate student was selected for publication in the Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, No. 2562 (DOI 10.3141/2562-01). The published research titled, "Operational Performance at Two-Way Stop-Controlled Intersections" explored driver behavior regarding right-of-way at two-way stop controlled (TWSC) intersections. The research concluded that the minor roadway volume and the first vehicle to approach the intersection were significant factors in driver behavior at TWSCs.
As a student at FVSU, Ms. Early was an active student on campus and had leadership positions in the FVSU NSBE chapter and the FVSU Student Government Association and participating in the Baptist Student Union Choir. She was selected as Senator of the Year by the FVSU Student Government Association in 2013. In 2014, she received recognition as NSBE Region III's Most Valuable President and also earned membership into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated through Eta Chapter.
Throughout her career, Ms. Early has demonstrated a commitment to professional development and industry engagement. She is an active member of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) and also participates in the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO), with her company sponsoring her formal membership. Her credentials include certification as an engineer in training (EIT) by the Georgia Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors Board in 2025 and she is in pursuit of full licensure as a Professional Engineer. Ms. Early is a graduate of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Future Leaders Program (FLP) through ACEC Georgia and continues to serve on the FLP Steering Committee including having served as Chair of the Committee from 2023-2025.
Among Ms. Early's most notable achievements is being named to Georgia Engineering Magazine's "35 Under 35 Women to Know in Georgia Engineering" list three times, including in 2026. Overall, she attributes much of her success to her parents' unwavering support and guidance during her upbringing, which instilled self-awareness and discipline essential for achieving her goals. She also credits her faith as a major influence on her personal and professional growth.
Civic engagement is central to Ms. Early's life. She has served in committee leadership positions for youth initiatives and internal engagement with the Atlanta Suburban Alumnae Chapter (ASAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She also participates in 'Do Something Saturdays' and the Young Adult Usher Board as a member of Friendship Community Church and contributes time to highway cleanup efforts organized by COMTO. In 2017, she served as a Summer Engineering Experience for Kids (SEEK) lead mentor for NSBE in the Atlanta metropolitan area, demonstrating her commitment to mentorship and outreach.
Ms. Early is a strong advocate for Black women in STEM, a role shaped in part by a professional journey that has not always been easy. More broadly, she hopes to demonstrate her passion for supporting and advancing women in STEM, extending her advocacy beyond her own community to women across the field. Her work reflects a deep and longstanding commitment to creating opportunities for women to succeed and thrive in STEM.
Outside of her professional commitments, Ms. Early enjoys traveling and has visited numerous destinations around the world and maintains an active lifestyle. Looking ahead, she plans to return to tap dancing — a hobby enjoyed since childhood — once she completes preparation for her professional engineering exam. Additionally, she intends to resume playing the flute after recently revisiting flute-related content. Music was an important part of her life from third grade through high school graduation.
