Ms. Keeton's educational background includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre for Youth from Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, Virginia. During her time at Shenandoah, she was awarded Senior Homecoming Princess and received the Outstanding Theatre for Youth honor in recognition of her writing for Shenandoah Showmaker's touring production CATTYWAMPUSED: Tall and True Tales of American Folklore. Her academic training established a foundation for her early work using theater and storytelling as tools for connection and education. Through programs such as Theatre IV on Tour's Hugs and Kisses, she worked with young people to help them find language for difficult experiences and move toward understanding and closure. Early in her career, Ms. Keeton earned certification as a life coach before pursuing playwriting, publishing two works, Cinderella: The Fairy Godmother's Tale and Thumbelina, through YouthPlays and staging an Off-Broadway production at the New York Children's Theatre Festival. She subsequently transitioned into journalism and digital media, working with PBS and NPR affiliates as a storyteller and photojournalist. Her work contributed to four regional Edward R. Murrow Awards recognizing excellence in innovation and social media. Civically engaged throughout her career, Ms. Keeton is the founder of Whistle Stop Theater Company, through which she produces original family- and youth-centered pop-up theater in historic downtown Ashland, Virginia.
