Marked by a steadfast commitment to rock songwriting and recording, Mr. Lentz's distinguished career as an artist and musician began in 1975 and continues to thrive today. He is the guitarist and co-lead vocalist of the guitar-driven trio F.O.G., whose most recent album "Dare to Enter the Mist" was released in 2017 and blends catchy choruses with progressive rock leanings. Additionally, he performs in the veteran band Driven, which began in 1994 and has released five records, their latest being an ambitious double album titled "A Bunch of B & S" that released in 2024. His longstanding dedication to his music is evident in the publication of approximately 90 of his songs on streaming services, a milestone he regards as equally significant to his achievements in visual art.
In 1998, Mr. Lentz expanded his creative pursuits by establishing an independent music studio with his music partner Brad Martens, which has enabled him to collaborate with like-minded musicians and further develop his original sound. The studio quickly became a hub for innovation, allowing him to refine his skills and share his music with a broader audience.
Alongside his musical accomplishments, Mr. Lentz has made a lasting impact as a snow sculptor; over several decades, he has completed more than 100 sculptures at both national and international events. Among his most notable achievements is the creation of a snow sculpture with his children at an international sculpting event in Breckenridge, Colorado, which stands as a source of immense pride. His work has garnered extensive media coverage and earned multiple People's Choice Awards, as well as a silver award at the state snow sculpting competition in Wisconsin.
Mr. Lentz's artistic repertoire also includes straw sculpting. Nearly a decade before this recognition, he participated in an international straw sculpture show at Chicago's Navy Pier and was subsequently invited to compete in a national straw sculpting event in Illinois. These experiences further solidified his reputation within the soft sculpting community and led to additional accolades at national competitions.
Earlier in his creative journey, Mr. Lentz developed proficiency as a leather carver, with his skill in this medium opening doors to local art shows and contributing to his evolution as a multidisciplinary artist.
Mr. Lentz's academic background includes a bachelor's degree in dairy science, which he earned at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Reflecting on his storied journey to date, he attributes much of his creative success to discipline and perseverance, as well as to the collaborative spirit fostered by working alongside bandmates and other individuals who share his passion and vision.
Mr. Lentz's introduction to music performance began at age 7 when he started playing guitar. By 18, he was performing paid gigs and spent many years honing his craft in cover bands before transitioning into original compositions and recordings with Driven and F.O.G. This early start laid the foundation for a lifelong pursuit of artistic excellence across multiple mediums as he continues to expand his repertoire.
Alongside his music and sculpting endeavors, civic engagement has long been another cornerstone of Mr. Lentz's life. Drawing inspiration from his own positive experiences as a youth member of 4H, he now volunteers with local 4H programs and county fair organizations to help children and teenagers build their self-confidence, leadership and life skills. His outstanding dedication saw him recognized by the county fair board through honors such as Volunteer of the Year and Friends of the Fair awards.
Beyond his professional and civic achievements, Mr. Lentz enjoys collaborating with his family in both artistic and musical endeavors. Happily married to his wife Michelle for over 35 years, he is the proud father of five adult sons who have assisted him with snow sculpting projects as a family team. Through these endeavors, he also imparted his leatherworking techniques to his sons, fostering their appreciation for art while supporting their own musical interests during their high school years.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Lentz intends to continue pursuing both his music and art careers for as long as he is able. With many ideas for future art creations that he is eager to pursue, he remains committed to sustaining exposure for his music and sculptures so he can continue reaching new milestones while bringing joy and wonder to audiences all over the world.
