Since 2008, she has served as co-founder and a member of the board of WebPT, a company she helped launch after identifying a need for more efficient documentation in outpatient physical therapy. Drawing on her experience as a practicing physical therapist and clinic director, Dr. Jannenga partnered with a software engineer in 2006 to develop a system initially intended for her own clinic. Market research revealed that 80% of physical therapists were still documenting with pen and paper, and the platform they built became the first web-based electronic medical record designed specifically for outpatient rehabilitation therapists. Officially launched in 2008, WebPT gained rapid traction as federal policy accelerated the national shift to electronic medical records. With Dr. Jannenga's leadership, the company grew from five employees to more than 800 and, through innovative product development and a strategic acquisition strategy, expanded its reach to serve nearly half of the United States outpatient physical therapy market. She held several key roles within the company, including chief operating officer from 2008 to 2015, president from 2015 to 2019 and chief clinical officer from 2019 to 2026. Across that period, WebPT also ran the entrepreneurial gamut, raising early-stage funding from Canal Partners in 2011, a growth investment from Battery Ventures in 2016 and a majority investment from Warburg Pincus in 2019. In April 2026, Dr. Jannenga transitioned away from daily operations and now serves as a board member, shareholder and strategic advisor focused on governance, company culture and clinical leadership.

Her academic background laid the groundwork for her multifaceted career. Dr. Jannenga earned a Bachelor of Science in biological sciences with a minor in exercise physiology from the University of California, Davis, in 1992, where she also played collegiate basketball. She completed a Master of Physical Therapy at the Institute of Physical Therapy, now the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences, in 1996 before earning a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Evidence In Motion in 2013.

Her professional journey began in clinical practice. As the recipient of a competitive graduate scholarship from NovaCare, she worked in two of the company's facilities after graduation, serving from 1996 to 1997 as a staff therapist at Wuesthoff Progressive Care Center in Rockledge, Florida, before moving to Arizona in 1997 to work in an outpatient clinic specializing in workers' compensation and sports injuries. She was promoted to center manager in 1999, overseeing rehabilitation services at a new-concept sports medicine clinic operated in partnership with Phoenix College. To advance her work in sports medicine, she earned her Athletic Training Certification in 2000. Between 2000 and 2003, she contributed as a trainer and rehabilitation specialist for Arizona Sahuaros Professional Soccer, supporting athletes' recovery and performance. From 2003 to 2011, Dr. Jannenga was clinic director at Physiotherapy Associates in Tempe, Arizona, where she led clinical operations and mentored staff. She served as team therapist for the Phoenix RoadRunners from 2005 to 2009, and over the course of her sports medicine career she also worked with golfers on the LPGA Tour and with professional athletes from the NBA and MLB. That work extended to on-field and rehabilitation support for Arizona State University club teams and for high schools in the Tempe Union district.

Beyond her work at WebPT, Dr. Jannenga founded Rootstock Ventures, where she serves as managing partner and invests primarily in startups founded and led by women. She is also founder and chief executive officer of the Rizing Tide Foundation, the nonprofit she established in 2019 to provide scholarships and educational enrichment for future physical therapist leaders from underrepresented backgrounds. To date, Rizing Tide has awarded $2.5 million in scholarship funding supporting doctoral and residency programs, reaching a total of 118 recipients.

Dr. Jannenga's commitment to service extends across the Greater Phoenix community. She has served since 2024 on the board of directors of HonorHealth, one of Arizona's largest nonprofit integrated healthcare systems, and since 2021 on the board of the Flinn Foundation, a private nonprofit that advances Arizona's bioscience sector, undergraduate education, arts and culture, and civic leadership. She previously served on the board of trustees of the Arizona Community Foundation from 2017 to 2026, on the board of the Arizona School for the Arts from 2019 to 2025, including as board chair from 2024 to 2025, and on the board of trustees of the Arizona Science Center from 2017 to 2024. She served as an appointee to the Board of Trustees of the Physical Therapy Political Action Committee within the American Physical Therapy Association from 2014 to 2018. She has been a member of YPO since 2018 and of the Chief Executives Organization since 2025.

Her achievements have been recognized through several honors, including Philanthropic Champion from the Phoenix Business Journal in 2024 for her work with Rizing Tide; Arizona Physical Therapist of the Year from the Arizona Physical Therapy Association in 2015; and inclusion in Health Data Management's Most Powerful Women in Healthcare IT in 2017.

Born in Weslaco, Texas, in 1968, Dr. Jannenga is the daughter of an immigrant father, who emigrated from Austria after World War II, and a first-generation Japanese American mother, born in Hawaii to Japanese immigrant parents. She credits their sacrifices with instilling perseverance, work ethic and ambition, and with inspiring much of her professional drive and philanthropic focus. Mentorship from coaches and professional leaders has further shaped her approach to leadership and growth, alongside a commitment to conscious capitalism, while her community involvement and advocacy for the physical therapy profession have reinforced her belief in relationship building and in a legacy of philanthropic impact.

She is married and has a blended family that includes a daughter in high school and twin "bonus" daughters attending college abroad. Outside her professional commitments, she enjoys traveling, having visited all seven continents, exploring different cultures through immersive experiences, practicing yoga, strength training, hiking and being a volleyball mom to her youngest daughter.

Looking ahead, Dr. Jannenga is focused on scale of a different kind. Where WebPT's growth was measured in clinics and market share, she now measures progress in scholarships awarded, founders funded and clinicians whose presence widens the profession twice: drawing in patients more likely to seek care from someone who shares their background, and students who can finally picture themselves on the other side of the treatment table.
