MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, September 24, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Juan Guo, who goes by Janny, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value, with factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in their field taken into account during the selection process.
Janny Guo is a prominent leader in the global semiconductor industry, bringing more than 18 years of experience and a consistent record of achievement across several major technology companies. Since 2025, she has served as Senior Director of Engineering, Operations, and Service Performance at Applied Materials, Inc. in Sunnyvale, California, where she leads the productivity team with a focus on AI-driven development and efficiency improvements for customers including TSMC, Intel, Samsung, Rapidus, and SK Hynix. Her team is responsible for ensuring each product meets customer capacity needs without failure, enabling smooth operations and developing advanced AI systems to predict and prevent issues before they arise.
Before this role, Janny Guo served as Technical Director at ASM International N.V. in Portland, Oregon (2022–2025), where she was invited to build a new team dedicated to supporting Intel's five-year technology roadmap. Over three years, she interviewed more than 100 candidates and selected 20 high-tech professionals, and was in charge of more than $500 million in business, establishing ASM's presence and reputation with key clients.
From 2020 to 2022, she was Senior Process Engineering Manager at Lam Research Corporation in Fremont, California, supporting YMTC — a Chinese memory chip manufacturer that went on to achieve several billion dollars in sales — while overseeing installation of Automated Test Equipment systems and helping maintain 80% conductor etch market share for Lam.
Earlier, from 2016 to 2020, Janny Guo was Senior Process Engineering Manager at Applied Materials, where she led development of etch process technology for DRAM customers including Samsung and Micron, contributing significantly to the company's business during that period. Her earlier Applied Materials roles included Senior Process Engineer (2013–2016, Sunnyvale and Boise), Process Engineer (2010–2012, Singapore), and Senior Application Engineer (2007–2010, Israel) — each reflecting the rigor and determination she brought from her doctoral research.
Throughout her career, Janny Guo has been recognized for her sharp read on industry trends and her ability to anticipate what's next. She treats every project as an opportunity for innovation, consistently meeting or exceeding timelines and targets. She holds several patents in semiconductor process technology and has published research that has advanced the field.
Janny Guo earned an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 2026, a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from Boise State University (2016), a master's in Materials Science and Physics Engineering from Xi'an Jiaotong University (2007), and a bachelor's in Materials Science and Engineering from Xi'an University of Technology (2004) — graduating in the top 1% of her class. Reflecting on her decision to pursue an MBA at this stage of her career, she says: "The rapid pace of technological advancement requires leaders to possess insight beyond the technical realm — finance, marketing, and strategy. Wharton's dynamic curriculum, organized in a biweekly residential format, offered the rigor I needed to broaden my leadership acumen. Its collaborative environment became a conduit for engaging a diverse cohort, enriching my perspective and building connections that extend far beyond the classroom. These aren't skills I intend to leave theoretical — I'm eager to translate them into tangible impact across every facet of my career, driving innovation and ensuring success."
Janny Guo's drive traces back to a childhood shaped by hardship rather than comfort. Raised with limited family support, she learned early that nothing would be handed to her — every advantage had to be built by hand. Her parents demanded excellence and tolerated nothing less, and in that unforgiving environment, failure was never framed as a lesson; it was framed as something to be avoided at all costs. That pressure could have broken a different child. Instead, it forged in her a relentless, almost combustible drive — a refusal to hesitate, to doubt, or to be outworked. By the time she reached university, that fire had turned into results: she graduated in the top 1% of her class, having already learned the lesson that would define her career — that the only real failure is not trying hard enough.
Beyond her professional work, Janny Guo is active in civic initiatives — volunteering with Applied Materials' community programs, remodeling and decorating homes for seniors across San Jose and the greater Bay Area, and supporting nonprofit organizations in Austin. Over the course of her career, she has received dozens of awards, though two stand out as the most consequential. The Moly Team Excellence Award (2024) recognized her team's collaboration with Intel pioneer Jeff Leib's team on molybdenum — a revolutionary material that changed how semiconductor foundry interconnects are engineered. The Outstanding Leadership Award (2018) marked a different kind of milestone: recognition of her transition from individual contributor engineer to manager, leading teams in a foreign country for the first time. Together, the two awards trace the arc of her career — from technical innovator to cross-cultural leader — alongside numerous other team and leadership accolades.
Outside of work, Janny Guo enjoys running, exercising, cooking, and reading. Looking ahead, she is focused on expanding her leadership responsibilities at Applied Materials — with an eye toward a General Manager role for the Asia-Pacific region — while guiding her own startup venture toward positive cash flow.
With energy and determination, Janny Guo continues to set new milestones, broadening her vision while accelerating both personal growth and industry advancement.
