He has served as head of offshore energy projects and business strategies in Sumitomo Corporation's energy department since 2019. In this role, he has been instrumental in helping Sumitomo Corporation establish its offshore energy business within the energy transformation department, beginning with conventional oil and gas initiatives by drawing on his expertise in floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO). He also oversees initiatives in sustainable new energy sectors, including decarbonization, CCUS and CO2 cross-border trading, LNG transition, hydrogen and ammonia as next-generation alternative fuels, and offshore wind farms. His efforts have contributed to the company's strategic expansion into emerging markets and technologies.

He is also a managing member of FPSO Solutions LLC, a consulting firm he co-founded in 2014. Through FPSO Solutions, he has provided specialized services to various E&P oil companies. Notable clients include Maersk Oil, BP, Cobalt International Energy, Total, Repsol, and Anadarko Petroleum.

His business career began at MODEC, Inc., in Tokyo, Japan, where he worked from 1992 to 2013. He started as an engineer and advanced through several leadership roles over two decades as the company grew from a small company to a multi-billion-dollar market-cap company with several thousand employees. His previous roles were naval architect, interface engineer, marine engineering manager, construction manager, installation manager, project manager, and proposal manager. He then held corporate management roles in several capacities before leaving MODEC, Inc. in 2013.

From 2015 to 2018, he served as the FPS Lead at Cobalt International Energy. During this period, he applied his technical knowledge and project management skills to support the company's offshore development activities in the USA GoM and Angola.

A defining moment in his professional journey came in his early 30s, when he received his first assignment as a project manager at MODEC. He was tasked with developing and managing the delivery of a half-billion-dollar offshore unit — a major milestone that marked the beginning of his serious commitment to project management at a young age. At just 40, he oversaw a project so significant it left a lasting impact on his life and career.

Recognized for his expertise in creating development plans for offshore energy projects and managing their execution, particularly in the FPSO sector, he is regarded as an industry leader and subject matter expert. He is a member of both the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, and has served as a committee member on offshore technologies for reputable Classification Societies.

His academic background includes earning an executive master of business administration through the executive education program GMP at Harvard Business School in Boston in 2012. He furthered his education by completing coursework in global oil and gas management at Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale in 2015 and earned a credential of readiness through the HBX CORe Program at Harvard Business School Online in Boston in 2016. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree from an institution in Japan.

In addition to his formal education, he earned a strategic thinking certification from LinkedIn in 2020. He credits much of his success to networking opportunities and feels fortunate for the support he has received from friends, mentors, and juniors throughout his career. He entered the oil and gas sector to survive in a competitive market by specializing in FPSO technology. As demand for his expertise grew, clients encouraged him to join their teams or collaborate directly, and his reputation expanded within the industry.

Beyond his professional achievements, he has demonstrated civic commitment through volunteer work with hospice organizations and by visiting shelters. He has contributed scholarly work, including "Structural Analysis and Modifications — Two Tankers for Offshore FPSO and FSO Service," presented at the Tenth International Symposium on Practical Design of Ships and Other Floating Structures in 2007. Additionally, he has shared professional insights as a speaker at several conferences, including OTC, Gastech, FPSO Congress, and APPEC.

Outside of his career pursuits, he enjoys walking, swimming, and golfing in his leisure time. Together with his wife — who is recognized for her investment acumen and volunteerism — they frequently travel internationally. Looking ahead, he is dedicated to advancing offshore energy solutions by promoting floating energy infrastructure as a sustainable alternative for future markets worldwide.
