His career in the food industry evolved at the Chicago International Produce Market, where he started at the bottom as a janitor but eventually worked his way up to driver, picker, warehouse sales representative, buyer, and then sales manager.

He performs various styles of Mexican music as part of a band and is proficient on multiple instruments, including trombone, tuba, trumpet and guitar.
