From October 2019 to July 2026, Ms. Van Curen served in regulatory roles at Chevron Corporation in Midland, Texas, advancing through several leadership positions. As regulatory affairs team lead and supervisor from 2019 to 2023, she oversaw a 12-person team and provided guidance on key compliance matters. She also developed step-by-step procedures that gave both new and experienced direct reports clear, reliable instructions for meeting regulatory requirements. Across her Chevron tenure, her responsibilities included assessing organizational needs, explaining the impact of regulatory changes, and preparing practical guidance to help teams navigate complex compliance obligations.

Ms. Van Curen transitioned into the role of regulatory permitting and compliance advisor from 2023 to 2025, followed by environmental and regulatory specialist from 2025 to 2026. Despite the changes in title, her core responsibilities remained centered on advising others and developing guidance rooted in her extensive industry knowledge.

Additionally, from 2017 to 2019, Ms. Van Curen contributed her expertise as a senior regulatory permitting and compliance professional with Marathon Oil Permian LLC — now ConocoPhillips — in Houston, Texas, bringing them up to date after being out of New Mexico for 10 years. Her work there further solidified her reputation as an expert in regulatory compliance advising.

From 2014 to 2017, Ms. Van Curen worked as an environmental project scientist specializing in oil and gas permitting and compliance, comingling of wells/leases, interim reclamation, spills remediation, and final reclamation at Arcadis in Midland, Texas. Before that, she served with the Bureau of Land Management under the U.S. Department of the Interior in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

She began her federal government career in 2007 as a production accountability technician and, in 2008, transitioned into the role of environmental protection specialist. Not only was she able to ensure the oil and gas royalties were correct, but she also protected the environment in several ways, including supporting special species surveys and identifying federal regulations that were confusing, outdated, or no longer aligned with current field operations. She also worked directly with officials in Washington to help update those regulations, including revisions under the Migratory Bird Act to ensure modern equipment types were addressed for nesting bird protection. Earlier, from 2003 to 2007, Ms. Van Curen was employed by Devon Energy Corporation in Artesia, New Mexico, as a production technician.

Earlier in her professional journey, Ms. Van Curen served as a service adviser and warranty administrator at Horizon City Freightliner in the El Paso metropolitan area from 2001 to 2003 while finishing her degree at New Mexico State University-Las Cruces. Before that, she worked as an accountant at Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell from 2000 to 2001 while completing her associate's degree. Her earlier work experience reflected a strong foundation in agriculture, hospitality, and hands-on oilfield operations. From 1986 to 1998, she worked as a horse trainer at Van Curen Farms in Roswell, where the operation trained approximately 240 to 300 horses annually and grew hay. She also worked at Western Sizzler in Roswell from 1988 to 1992, advancing from waitress to supervisor. On her days off from Western Sizzler, she helped pump wells in Artesia from 1987 to 1998.

Throughout her career, Ms. Van Curen has taken particular pride in two major accomplishments. First, she established formal guidance that brought greater clarity and consistency to operational procedures across the industry, reducing the need for newcomers to learn complex processes independently. Second, she helped correct federal regulations that were outdated or ineffective. Together, these achievements reflect her commitment not only to performing her own responsibilities well but also to improving standards across the field.

Ms. Van Curen's education has played an important role in her continued professional development. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in psychology at The University of Texas Permian Basin, a program she credits with strengthening her ability to recognize behavioral patterns and support team members more effectively as a supervisor. Her academic foundation also includes a Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, completed in 2003, and an associate degree in business administration and management from Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell, completed in 2000.

In addition to her formal degrees, Ms. Van Curen has achieved recognition as a certified animal care specialist in animal science, awarded by the State of West Virginia in 1992. This credential reflects her longstanding interest in animal care alongside her technical expertise.

The foundation for Ms. Van Curen's drive can be traced back to her upbringing in Artesia, New Mexico. Raised by a father who worked as a rig superintendent, mechanic, and farmer, she learned essential skills such as pumping wells, welding, mechanics, operating heavy equipment, and driving vehicles from an early age. Her mother was the only person in her family with a college degree until Ms. Van Curen herself attended college, becoming the only one among four siblings to complete higher education, earning a degree with honors.

Ms. Van Curen's dedication extends beyond professional settings into civic engagement and mentorship. She has sponsored children through Compassion International since 2010 and is affiliated with the Phi Theta Kappa honor society. Her contributions have been recognized with awards at Chevron Corporation for several project completions and company acquisition transitions.

Outside of her professional life, Ms. Van Curen finds balance through gardening, which offers both relaxation and reflection. Pulling weeds provides a mental reset, while watching bees move among blooming flowers gives her moments of quiet observation during especially busy seasons. Her personal life has also been shaped by the fulfillment of a lifelong dream: becoming a mother. She adopted her first child in August 2022 and her second child in April 2023.

Looking ahead, Ms. Van Curen plans to compile comprehensive manuals on regulatory compliance for distribution throughout the oil and gas industry via online platforms. She also intends to establish a private school focused on balancing traditional academics with practical life skills — including agriculture, animal care, gardening and lessons on emotions — believing that this approach will better prepare children for both trade careers and lifelong learning.
