A pivotal principle guiding Ms. Doty's work is her conviction that empowering adults with practical tools to prevent abuse, rather than placing the burden on children, is the most effective way to foster safe environments and prevent this abuse from ever happening. She remains grateful for this approach each day, as it underpins her ongoing advocacy and program development. Since 2000, Ms. Doty has also led personal development seminars for Landmark Worldwide where she put her expertise in training and development to use providing support for seminar leaders across the globe and her commitment that each and every person discover the best of themselves as the guiding force of their life.

Between 2012 and 2013, Ms. Doty served as the executive director of Grace Hospice Foundation in Tulsa, Oklahoma, overseeing operations and restructuring that organization to provide long-term support for end-of-life care. Prior to dedicating her life and career to ending child sexual abuse on the planet, she practices law as Sharon W. Doty & Associates, after beginning that career as a staff attorney at Howard & Widdows in 1991. Before passing the bar, she worked on behalf of abused, neglected, runaway, and homeless youth while serving on the administrative staff of Youth Services of North Central Oklahoma from 1981 to 1987.

Ms. Doty's educational journey began at the University of Oklahoma, where she earned a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance in 1967. Initially intending to pursue a career as an opera singer, she redirected her path toward social advocacy after becoming deeply involved in community volunteerism alongside her husband. Ms. Doty later acquired a Master of Arts in human relations at the University of Oklahoma in 1989 before earning a Doctor of Jurisprudence on campus in 1991. In addition to her academic degrees, Ms. Doty holds a diploma from the interdisciplinary training program in child abuse and neglect at the Center on Child Abuse and Neglect within the college of medicine at the University of Oklahoma, which she also completed in 1991. This specialized certification equipped her with advanced knowledge essential for developing prevention models and advocating effectively for vulnerable youth.

Beyond her organizational leadership, Ms. Doty's influence extends to active participation in professional associations, such as the International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect and the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children. She has presented at numerous conferences and has delivered keynote addresses before these organizations and others, sharing her expertise with practitioners worldwide.

Civic engagement has also been central to Ms. Doty's life since co-founding one of the first shelters for runaway, homeless, abused and neglected children during the 1960s, an era when no dedicated emergency resources existed for youth in crisis. She has directed church music ministries for three decades and currently performs with North Atlanta Voices in Atlanta. As the president of her local chapter of P.E.O., elected in March 2026, marking her third presidency across three chapters, Ms. Doty advances educational opportunities for women through this philanthropic organization. Her longstanding membership in Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity spans over six decades, where she now chairs a specialized task force within the organization. Furthermore, as an active parishioner at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Atlanta, Ms. Doty continues to integrate faith into service.

Ms. Doty has authored several books reflecting both professional expertise and personal experience: "Evil in Our Midst: Protecting Children from Sexual Predators," which was released in 2010, is now being updated as "Keeping Them Safe" and incorporates new research on online predation. In 2020, she authored "Widowwoman – A Journey: An Insider's Experience of the Cultural Phenomenon 'Widow' and Dealing with Loss in Our Society and the Signposts Along the Way," which addresses the unique challenges faced by widows and offers guidance for their communities. More recently in 2024, Ms. Doty published "Developing 20/20 Foresight: Learning How to Have It Go Your Way," which explores how individuals can cultivate competence beyond their natural inclinations.

The values instilled by Ms. Doty's parents have played a formative role throughout her life and career. Recognition for her contributions includes being named one of the YWCA Tulsa's 100 Women with Moxie and selection as one of three Outstanding Young Oklahoma Women early in her career. She was also honored as a three-time finalist for Oklahoma's Woman of the Year at ages 74 through 76 before being inducted into The Journal Record Woman of the Year Circle of Excellence. This accolade holds deep significance given Ms. Doty's working-class upbringing. Additional accolades included the Outstanding Volunteer for Child Advocacy Award and Oklahoma's Outstanding Child Abuse Prevention Award.
