Marked by her expertise in neuroscience and person-centered rehabilitation as well as her ability to understand people's unique needs, Ms. Kane currently serves as the director of program development at the Hickok Center for Brain Injury. In this capacity since 2024, she is responsible for conducting staff orientations and annual reviews, overseeing required trainings, and guiding new staff members through their initial orientation. Her responsibilities also include researching funding opportunities to expand the center's programs and services, identifying unmet community needs, and exploring various initiatives.

Prior to reaching her current position at Hickok Center, Ms. Kane was an interim program manager there from 2023 to 2024. In this role, she contributed to the management of the center's structured day program, which serves individuals with brain injuries through activities such as games, community outings, yoga and music therapy. She initially joined the company as a per diem direct support professional in 2021, and then full time as an evening program supervisor in 2022, providing leadership during after-hours programming.

From 2022 to 2023, Ms. Kane also worked as a community habilitation provider with Happiness House under the Finger Lakes Cerebral Palsy Association in Canandaigua, New York. In this role, she provided direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities, focusing on enhancing their independence and quality of life through one-on-one interactions as well as community outings and dog therapy.

As a part-time direct support professional at Hickok Center from 2021 to 2022, Ms. Kane delivered individualized care to clients with brain injuries, drawing on her growing expertise in neuroscience and rehabilitation. Concurrently, she worked as an outpatient peer at Finger Lakes Area Counseling & Recovery Agency (FLACRA), supporting clients as well as their friends and family members in recovery from addiction by leveraging her own lived experiences.

Ms. Kane began her journey in human services as an unlicensed home and community-based services provider at FLACRA from 2019 to 2021. Motivated by personal experiences related to addiction within her family, she sought to use her knowledge to assist others on their path to recovery. It was during this period that she encountered a client with a traumatic brain injury, which sparked her interest in neuroscience and led her to pursue further education and certification in this field.

Before entering the human services sector, Ms. Kane spent five years working at a car dealership following a significant back injury that ended her 15-year career as a licensed veterinary technician. At the dealership, she held various roles including detailing cars, working on the lot, handling reception duties, managing title clerk responsibilities and contributing as a service advisor. She also worked as a porter and driver across several locations owned by the dealership group.

Ms. Kane's academic background is distinguished by her pursuit of advanced studies in neuroscience and healthcare innovation. She earned a Bachelor of Arts and Applied Sciences in neuroscience and applied positive psychology from the University of Pennsylvania in 2025, graduating cum laude. Dedicated to the ideals of continuous learning, she is currently pursuing a master's degree in healthcare innovation at the University of Pennsylvania, deepening her knowledge of health law, healthcare systems and program development.

To augment her professional qualifications, Ms. Kane was certified as a brain injury specialist trainer by the Academy of Brain Injury Specialists in 2025 and as a brain injury specialist by the Brain Injury Association of America in 2021. Additionally, she was certified as a certified recovery peer advocate by the New York Certification Board in 2020.

Reflecting on her storied journey to date, Ms. Kane attributes much of her success to the unwavering support of her family, who encouraged her throughout her educational pursuits and accepted her decision to come out as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. Their encouragement also enabled her to return to school and transition her career after she sustained her back injury.

Ms. Kane's achievements and influence throughout the field are further reflected by her active involvement in professional institutes, including founding membership in The Women in STEM Network. She also participates in the Society for Neuroscience, the Cognitive Neuroscience Society, the Brain Injury Association of America, the National Neurotrauma Society and the International Behavioral Neuroscience Society.

In addition to her professional roles and organizational memberships, Ms. Kane has contributed to thought leadership within her field through presentations at major conferences. She served as a speaker at the Brain Injury Association of New York State (BIANYS) Conference in 2026 on the presentation "From Injury to Insight: Integrating Inner Healing" and previously in 2025 on "The Importance of Social Rehabilitation from a Provider's Perspective."

Outside of her work commitments, Ms. Kane cherishes being with her family and enjoys spending time at home with her two pitbulls, Pablo and Jim.

Looking toward the future, Ms. Kane aspires to create a Quadrant Four program for individuals who require high levels of care related to substance abuse, mental health challenges and brain injury recovery. Through continued education in healthcare innovation and ongoing dialogue with leadership at the Hickok Center for Brain Injury, she aims to develop a comprehensive facility that offers whole-person care — including therapies such as water therapy, animal therapy and access to green environments — ensuring equitable access for all New Yorkers regardless of their location.

Ms. Kane's remarkable journey reflects her resilience, dedication to lifelong learning and an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of others through science-based care, compassionate leadership and advocacy within the fields of neuroscience and rehabilitation.
