WASHINGTON, D.C., October 05, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael K. Henry has been recognized for achievement in government relations and public policy.

Marked by a deep expertise in the energy and infrastructure sectors, Mr. Henry's distinguished career in public policy spans three decades and counting. As the founder and chief executive officer of Acorn Consulting, established in 2023, he has led the boutique public policy firm with a focus on bespoke client solutions, results-oriented, direct advocacy before the United States Congress and federal agencies, and hands-on management of all daily operations.

Under Mr. Henry's leadership, Acorn Consulting has grown into a four-person consultancy known for its bipartisan and bicameral approach, with staff experienced at the most senior levels in both the United States House of Representatives and Senate. The firm's customized model ensures that every client receives a specifically tailored strategy, reflecting his belief that meaningful policy work requires attention to both the substance of issues and the unique needs of each client/project. Acorn Consulting is purposefully results-driven and hard-wired to bring results to complex problems and not simply report on the day-to-day activities of the US government.

A recognized expert in public policy within the transportation, energy, minerals, and conservation sectors, Mr. Henry's practice encompasses traditional infrastructure assets such as highways, bridges, railroads, maritime infrastructure, construction materials, and pipelines, as well as a broad range of energy issues. From energy/mineral extraction to delivering utilities to homes and offices, his work in these ever-evolving fields covers power generation for artificial intelligence and data centers (across the spectrum of feedstocks), oil and gas development, pipeline transportation, refining, and ensuring the energy needs of tomorrow are met with new energy solutions (such as CCS and renewable energy).

Prior to establishing Acorn Consulting, Mr. Henry managed clients at Alpine Group from 2002 to 2023, departing as a partner of the first government affairs firm to enter into a holding company and become publicly traded. During his tenure with the government affairs consultancy, he witnessed the firm's transformation from a small operation into one of Washington's most recognized public policy firms, serving clients in transportation, energy, and natural resources. As Alpine Group expanded and shifted toward a holding company structure, he became increasingly reflective about his own practice and the industry's direction. Ultimately, he decided to found Acorn Consulting to preserve a more personal connection with clients.

From 2000 to 2002, Mr. Henry was a professional staff member for the United States House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. In this capacity, he worked on surface transportation issues and pipeline safety initiatives and played a key role in preparing for the reauthorization of surface transportation legislation (SAFETEA LU). His earlier government service includes three years as professional staff for the House Committee on Natural Resources from 1997 to 2000, during which he focused upon energy and mineral matters on public lands (including on the Outer Continental Shelf of the Gulf of America), spearheading conservation legislation for then-Chairman Donald Young of Alaska and conducting oversight of the Trans Alaska Pipeline.

Mr. Henry began his career in Washington as a legislative assistant to Congressman Young from 1996 to 1997. While serving as a Congressional staffer, he handled a significant portfolio that included all major energy legislative initiatives during his tenure. Among his most meaningful accomplishments was helping an Alaskan constituent avoid deportation by resolving an urgent visa issue — an experience that reinforced his view that effective public policy work must prioritize individual lives as well as large-scale achievements. Over the course of his career, within the public and private sectors, he has contributed to numerous bills signed into law, including projects valued at more than $1 billion such as levee construction in Louisiana and major highway initiatives.

Hailing from an equally accomplished academic foundation, Mr. Henry earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado Boulder in 1996. Along with his education, he attributes his success to attention to detail and an ability to couple his knowledge of policy, a genuine understanding of his clients' objectives and an ability to align both with the motivations of policymakers.

Although Mr. Henry did not initially plan for a career in Washington, his upbringing in Fairbanks, AK exposed him to political life through family connections with local leaders and elected officeholders. Entering public service as an intern without the intention of remaining long-term, he accepted a position with Congressman Don Young after graduation instead of pursuing graduate school as he originally planned; this decision set him on the path that allowed him to have a significant impact on public policy matters and work in a career in constant flux, with an opportunity to learn new things each day.

Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Henry is known for his civic engagement and charitable work, shaped by his personal experience as a rare cancer survivor from a diagnosis in 2020 at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic. After successful treatment that involved extensive surgery, he has remained cancer free since June 2020. This experience inspired both his personal philanthropic endeavors and his firm's participation in rare cancer research and education programs. Mr. Henry also volunteers as a coach at a local high school, Georgetown Preparatory School, even after his son graduated in 2023. Additionally, he remains active in the community and local clubs through Acorn Consulting alongside colleagues who share similar values.

In recognition of Mr. Henry's outstanding contributions to public policy advocacy and helping those in need, he was presented with the Top Lobbyist Award from the National Institute of Lobbying & Ethics in 2025 — an especially meaningful honor to him as the award is determined by a panel of peers.

On a personal level, Mr. Henry is happily married to his spouse, Sarah, a dedicated professional photographer specializing in headshots and family portraits who pursues her craft with passion beyond traditional full-time constraints. Together they have two children: a son who will soon graduate with a degree in finance and a daughter who is pursuing business studies with interests in finance and organizational management.

Looking toward the future, Mr. Henry aims to grow Acorn Consulting sustainably while maintaining its constructive culture for his clients and employees alike. He prioritizes organic development that allows others within the firm to build their own practices while carefully preserving a healthy work-life balance, ensuring that Acorn Consulting remains a quality workplace committed to serving its clients effectively for many years to come.
