O FALLON, IL, October 05, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Kaonis Thomas has been recognized for achievement in the fine arts industry.
Mr. Thomas has established himself as a creative strategist and visual artist, most recently serving as a creative artist and conceptualist since 2023. In this capacity, he has focused on developing social conceptualism, an innovative art movement that integrates semiotics — the study of signification; signs, signifiers and cultural references — as a central theme. Through his work, Mr. Thomas uses semiology as a research methodology to generate visual ideas and narratives, drawing on history as a culture-based supporting framework. This approach contributed to his selection for an art residency in France in 2026, where he will introduce peers to social conceptualism and further develop this concept through painting and collaborative exploration. He views Social Conceptualism as an art movement, philosophy and ideology.
For many decades, Mr. Thomas has worked as a creative artist, producing works that span pet and human portraits, billboards, signs, drawings and paintings. His expertise in these areas is widely recognized, and he is praised for achieving mastery in each discipline. The foundation of his artistic journey began with hand-painted billboards during his tenure as a pictorial billboard painter for the National Advertising Company, a 3M subsidiary, from 1988 to 1998. As a subcontractor, he created 14' X 48' custom-designed billboards, each uniquely executed with oil-based enamel paints. In addition to operating as a muralist under the business name Kaonis Thomas Illustration, Kaonis created fine arts paintings to be sold at Lithos Gallery, a black owned and operated fine arts gallery located in University City, MO. which cease to exist today. The transition from hand-painted to vinyl graphics marked a significant evolution in the outdoor advertising industry; however, Mr. Thomas's contributions are remembered for their individuality and craftsmanship.
KAONISFINEARTS was created by him, as the founder, in 2023 as a way of marketing pet and people portraiture created with charcoal and as a way of communicating his other creative capabilities – https://www.kaonisfinearts.com. In addition to his artistic pursuits, Mr. Thomas dedicated 36 years to military service with the Missouri Army National Guard from 1986 to 2022 as a part-time Soldier with four active-duty deployments, two overseas and two in the U.S. At home in reserve status, his most recent role was State Equal Opportunity Advisor. As a dual status Federal Technician, he worked in logistics and maintenance management at Field Maintenance Shop #10 from 1999 to 2022. He served as a company first sergeant from 2009 to 2014, and as a Master Resilience Trainer, noncommissioned officer in charge from 2011 to 2013. Between 2015 and 2017, he was a senior truckmaster in transportation, followed by a role as an equal opportunity leader and equal employment opportunity counselor from 2017 to 2022. Also, he served as a Brigade Equal Opportunity Advisor for the United States Army from 2020 to 2021 before retiring from the Missouri National Guard in 2022.
Mr. Thomas's educational background includes a Master of Arts in fine arts painting from Fontbonne University in Saint Louis in 1995 and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in illustration and design from Washington University in Saint Louis in 1983.
