CORAL SPRINGS, FL, October 07, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Purnell Traverso, MD, FACS, has been recognized for his contributions to hand, wrist and microvascular surgery and his commitment to advancing patient-centered specialty care.

A fellowship-trained, board-certified hand surgeon and founder of THInc | Traverso Hand, Dr. Traverso specializes in the treatment of conditions affecting the upper extremity from the elbow to the fingertip. His practice combines evidence-based medicine with individualized treatment, including nonsurgical care, regenerative treatments such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP), advanced musculoskeletal ultrasound, minimally invasive procedures and traditional surgery when appropriate.

Central to Dr. Traverso's philosophy is a simple principle: patients should understand their diagnosis and every reasonable treatment option before deciding on surgery. He emphasizes careful evaluation, clear communication and conservative treatment when appropriate, reserving surgery for patients who need it.

Dr. Traverso has incorporated advances in musculoskeletal ultrasound into both the diagnosis and treatment of upper-extremity conditions. His practice offers ultrasound-guided procedures as well as minimally invasive approaches to carpal tunnel syndrome, including ultrasound-guided carpal tunnel release performed in the office and endoscopic carpal tunnel release. These technologies complement—not replace—the individualized clinical judgment that guides each patient's treatment plan.

Following his general surgery residency at Howard University Hospital, Dr. Traverso completed fellowship training in hand and microvascular surgery at the University of Connecticut. He subsequently earned board certification in surgery and subspecialty certification in surgery of the hand.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Traverso has remained committed to education and the advancement of surgical care. He has served as faculty for physician education programs and has been invited to teach and lecture on topics in hand and upper-extremity surgery, including emerging diagnostic and minimally invasive techniques. His educational work reflects a broader commitment to sharing knowledge, advancing evidence-based care and helping physicians incorporate evolving technologies thoughtfully into clinical practice.

Dr. Traverso remains actively engaged in the broader surgical and hand surgery communities. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and maintains professional affiliations with the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Association for Hand Surgery, the Florida Orthopaedic Society, the Florida Medical Association and the American Medical Association.

His commitment to surgery and patient care was recognized early in his career through several honors, including the Chairman of Surgery Award for Intern of the Year and the Chairman of Surgery Award for Most Outstanding Resident at Howard University, as well as Dr. Kirk Watson's Founder's Award from the New England Hand Society. He also received recognition for his service as Administrative Surgical Chief Resident during his surgical training.

A particularly meaningful part of Dr. Traverso's career has been his return to Trinidad through humanitarian hand surgery missions beginning in 2018. Through the American Society for Surgery of the Hand's Touching Hands program, he has helped provide specialized upper-extremity care, including treatment of complex and congenital conditions, while contributing to physician education and efforts to strengthen local capacity in hand care.

Born and raised in Trinidad, Dr. Traverso earned his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree from the University of the West Indies, where his medical education was supported by a national government scholarship. After completing his internship in Trinidad, he continued his surgical training in the United States.

In 2023, Dr. Traverso earned a Master of Science in Medical Cannabis Science and Therapeutics from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, reflecting his continued interest in emerging areas of evidence-based therapeutics.

Dr. Traverso credits much of his outlook to growing up in Trinidad. He believes that authenticity, positive energy, honesty, integrity and genuine human connection are as important in medicine as they are in life. That perspective informs the culture of THInc and his relationships with patients, colleagues and the communities he serves.

Outside medicine, Dr. Traverso's greatest priority is his family. He and his wife are raising three sons, and their family's ties to Sweden, the United States and Trinidad remain an important part of their lives. He enjoys traveling, returning to Trinidad and, more recently, playing golf with his eldest son.

Looking ahead, Dr. Traverso plans to continue expanding THInc while preserving the principles on which he built the practice: evidence-based medicine, thoughtful innovation, individualized care and respect for patient choice. Regardless of how medicine evolves, he believes the physician's responsibility remains unchanged—to listen carefully, explain clearly and help each patient make the decision that is right for them.
