LYNCHBURG, VA, October 07, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Christina Davis has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mrs. Davis has established herself as a leading artist and muralist through her business, Christina Davis, Artist, since 2011. In this role, she creates custom mural designs by collaborating closely with clients and conducting site visits to ensure each project aligns with the intended vision and space. Her expertise in contemporary figurative portraiture and mural artistry is evident in her ability to paint high-quality acrylic murals for community spaces, nonprofits and businesses.
In addition to her primary work, Mrs. Davis teaches art workshops both in person and online, instructing approximately hundreds of students and mentoring younger artists within the community over the years. She is also dedicated to documenting local history through portraiture, particularly of historic figures, further cementing her impact on the cultural landscape.
A defining moment in Mrs. Davis's career was the creation of her mural "Black Girl Magic," which garnered national attention when it was featured in People magazine in 2022. The mural became a focal point for community engagement, inspiring visitors to take photographs, recite poetry and interact with the piece. Its influence extended further when it appeared on the cover of a book about African American voices and arts authored by a friend. The widespread resonance of "Black Girl Magic" affirmed her belief that her art could serve as a powerful voice for her values while connecting deeply with a broader audience.
Alongside her work as an artist and muralist, Mrs. Davis has served as an art instructor at the Academy of Fine Arts since 2009, during which time she has contributed to arts education by guiding students of various ages and skill levels, fostering creativity and technical proficiency. She is also an art instructor at The Art Box, a local art supply store where she shares her knowledge with aspiring artists in a retail setting. Since 2014, she has operated a private studio in which she offers personalized instruction tailored to individual student needs.
Equipping Mrs. Davis with the creative skills and entrepreneurial acumen necessary for sustaining a successful independent practice was her academic background, inclusive of her studies at Lynchburg University and Hood College, where her studies encompassed both art and business coursework. Early influences from her family members — many of whom were teachers and artists — sparked her passion for art at a young age. She began entering library art contests at age six and attended free calligraphy workshops, which nurtured her artistic development throughout childhood and adolescence, and during high school, she pursued every available advanced placement art course to further hone her abilities.
The launch of Mrs. Davis's mural career was serendipitous. After being approached by a friend seeking a muralist, she completed her first commission, which led to further referrals through word of mouth. Her active involvement in the local arts community facilitated opportunities to teach workshops in partnership with the Academy of Fine Arts and local art stores.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Davis has garnered much recognition. Her professional achievements include being featured in People's Magazine , Lynchburg Living magazine, and Southern Living magazine, highlighting her prominence within the regional arts community and underscoring her commitment to sharing her craft with diverse audiences. She was also named Gold Winner for Best of Lynchburg Artists for three consecutive years — 2023, 2024 and 2025 — and received Person of the Year honors from local magazines.
Reflecting on her journey, Mrs. Davis attributes her success to overcoming stereotypes about artists as isolated or competitive individuals. She has always embraced openness, sharing her work freely, engaging in dialogue about her process and viewing fellow artists as collaborators rather than competitors. By prioritizing community-building in an area that initially lacked a robust arts scene, she has forged meaningful connections that have brought acknowledgments, awards and sustained business growth.
Outside her art, Mrs. Davis's civic engagement includes associations with Virginia Episcopal School and Vector Space, where she supports educational initiatives and creative innovation within the community. Looking ahead, she is committed to painting portraits of at least 15 notable historic figures from Lynchburg who currently lack official representation, contributing to the preservation of local heritage through visual documentation. She is also considering expanding into a larger studio space to accommodate these projects and plans to publish a book chronicling the stories behind her artwork.
