Dr. Bhat is a results-oriented professional who possesses a broad analytical knowledge in polymer, textile, wood, and rubber fields, and has extensive experience in solving research, development, and manufacturing problems. After earning a Bachelor in Technology in chemical engineering from the University of Mumbai in 1989, he went on to attend The University of Georgia, where he received a Master of Science in textiles management in 1991. Five years later, Dr. Bhat received a doctorate degree in analytical chemistry from his graduate alma mater.

Since earning his degrees, Dr. Bhat has applied his knowledge at several companies, working in the laboratory in various capacities. After working at Alcatel for a year as a material scientist and technical buyer, he joined Eastman Chemical Company, where he first served as a laboratory manager before working his way up to principal research chemist, innovation project manager, and now associate scientist. In his current role he characterizes materials with novel properties and ensures that every Eastman product meets the highest quality standards before reaching customers.

For over 20 years, Dr. Bhat has devoted his time and effort to important projects at Eastman; he has filed 25 patent applications, of which two have already been approved, and plans to remain there for another decade to continue his work and contributions. In all he has accomplished and will continue to pursue, he attributes his success to his dedication, focus, hard work, and amiability. He takes great pride in his diverse experience working on various projects and products widely used by individuals daily and his contributions, ranging from ideation to implementation, have allowed him to enhance his skill set and knowledge in both a professional and academic setting.

For his involvement in his field, Dr. Bhat has been a grant recipient, holds membership with the American Society for Testing and Materials, and has held membership with the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists, through which he earned third place in a student paper competition. Outside of his professional endeavors, he is actively involved with several civic engagements. Dr. Bhat volunteers for Horses For Heroes and United Way. In addition, he has served as a financial chair for the American Red Cross for five years and has been honored as an award recipient for his work there.
