CARTHAGE, MS, October 14, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Lee Powers has been recognized for achievement in timber harvesting and logging operations.
Mr. Powers has distinguished himself as an expert in timber harvesting and logging operations, building on a four-generation family legacy. Since 2021, he has served as owner of Powers Timber, LLC in Carthage, Mississippi. In this capacity, Mr. Powers operates a wood processor to merchandise harvested timber, oversees daily logging crew operations and truck logistics, manages preventive equipment maintenance to reduce fire risk and fields frequent client calls regarding timber jobs and scheduling. His leadership is marked by a hands-on approach and a deep commitment to both operational excellence and crew welfare.
Prior to establishing his own company, Mr. Powers worked from 2007 to 2021 as a logger and equipment operator within the family logging business. During these formative years, he gained comprehensive experience in machinery operation and logistical coordination, while also learning the intricacies of payroll management and business operations. This period was instrumental in preparing him for entrepreneurship and allowed him to contribute meaningfully to the family's longstanding reputation in the industry.
Among his most significant professional achievements, Mr. Powers was featured on the cover of Southern Logging Times as a young logger, an honor that holds special significance given that his grandfather appeared in the same publication at its launch. This recognition stands as a testament to his perseverance in the face of lifelong health challenges, including cystic fibrosis diagnosed at just 12 weeks old. Despite being told he might not live past 21, Mr. Powers has consistently demonstrated that hard work can surpass even the most daunting expectations. He is especially proud that his lean four-person crew — comprised of one skidder, one loader, one processor and one cutter — routinely outperforms larger operations with significantly more equipment.
Mr. Powers is an active member of the Mississippi Loggers Association, where he benefits from industry networking and advocacy opportunities. He recently participated in association trips to Washington, D.C., and New York City, marking his first visits to both cities. The experience at the 9/11 Memorial left a lasting impression on him, recalling his own memories as a sixth grader during those tragic events.
Educationally, Mr. Powers earned a high school diploma before enrolling in radiology coursework at Hinds Community College in Raymond, Mississippi. Although he initially planned to pursue a career as a radiology technician, he made the pivotal decision to leave school at age 18 when a crew member on his father's team became seriously ill. This choice enabled him to step into the family business full-time, furthering his practical knowledge of logging operations and business management. Mr. Powers credits his parents as his greatest supporters throughout his life and career, particularly during periods of health adversity. Their unwavering encouragement and guidance have been fundamental to his success.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Mr. Powers is involved with civic-minded organizations such as the Log a Load for Kids Program, where he serves as both donor and participant. He has also contributed to projects such as Unstoppable Powers, reflecting his commitment to sharing knowledge and inspiring others in the industry.
In his personal life, Mr. Powers enjoys hunting, fishing, watching football and baseball and traveling for hunting excursions. His faith in God and family remains central to his life. He treats his four-person crew like family as well, offering incentives such as on-time bonuses, extra pay for Saturday work and flexible schedules. Each year at Christmas, Mr. Powers and his father cook for their team as an expression of gratitude.
Having lived much of his life under the shadow of cystic fibrosis — with daily treatments consuming up to 90 minutes each day until five years ago — Mr. Powers experienced a dramatic improvement after beginning Trikafta medication. His lung function has since exceeded 100 percent without further need for treatments, which he regards as the greatest blessing of his life.
Looking ahead, Mr. Powers intends to continue growing Powers Timber while navigating industry challenges, including rising insurance costs and difficulty attracting new talent to logging careers. With no children of his own, he plans for eventual succession by passing the company's leadership to one of his loyal crew members, so that the Powers name endures in the field he loves so deeply.
