MANCHESTER, NH, October 14, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jane E. Young has been recognized for achievement in legal services.
Marked by an unwavering commitment to client advocacy and public interest, Ms. Young's distinguished career in law spans more than three decades of service. In 2025, she joined McDowell & Morrissette, PA — led in part by her husband Mark D. Morrissette — in Manchester, New Hampshire, where she serves as an attorney specializing in personal injury and medical malpractice litigation. Recently, Ms. Young joined Mr. Morrissette as a partner at McDowell & Morrissette. In this role, she is responsible for assessing the viability of malpractice and personal injury claims, consulting with expert witnesses, and meeting with clients to help them build their case strategy and providing counsel throughout litigation.
Ms. Young has found particular fulfillment in serving as a counselor in the truest sense, working closely with clients and experts to ensure that each case is thoroughly developed from the outset. Her approach reflects a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by those who have lost their voice due to trauma or adversity including the unimaginable loss of a family member. Though her career counts many milestones, she considers her greatest professional achievement to be her ongoing dedication to standing up for such individuals, building mutual trust over time, and advocating tirelessly on their behalf.
Before transitioning into private practice, Ms. Young was appointed United States Attorney for the District of New Hampshire by President Joseph Biden. Her confirmation came in May 2022 and she served proudly in this capacity until January 2025. During her tenure as U.S. Attorney, she regularly interfaced with local community and law enforcement leaders to provide federal assets and guidance all while overseeing the day-to-day operations of the United States Attorney's Office.
Ms. Young spent nearly 30 years at the New Hampshire Department of Justice, serving in various roles, including as the longest-serving chief of the criminal bureau. In her final years at the department, she served as the Deputy Attorney General. Earlier in her career at the department, she handled asset forfeiture and drug-related cases during a period of heightened activity in those areas, which provided her with extensive trial experience and led to her assignment on homicide cases. Throughout her career, she continued to uphold her reputation for integrity and honesty while handling high-profile matters including homicide cases and complex investigations.
After earning a Juris Doctor from the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce Law Center (now UNH Law) in 1989, Ms. Young started her legal journey as an assistant county attorney at the Hillsborough County Attorney's Office from 1990 to 1992. Throughout this period, she gained valuable trial experience and developed the foundational principles that continue to guide her work today: treating people with respect and recognizing that credibility rests on integrity.
To augment her legal qualifications, she has been admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit since 2002 and the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire since 1990.
In addition to her professional achievements, Ms. Young has contributed significantly to the legal community through leadership roles and associations. She currently serves as vice president of the New Hampshire Bar Association, a position that places her on a trajectory toward becoming president-elect and ultimately president within the organization.
Ms. Young's outstanding contributions to law and public service have seen her recognized with several prestigious honors over the years. She was presented with the New Hampshire Congressional Award in both 2016 and 2004, recognized as a fellow of the New Hampshire Bar Foundation in 2016 and received the Marilla Ricker Award in 2015 — an honor given to exceptional female role models who champion women within the legal field. The Marilla Ricker Award holds special significance for her because it was awarded based on a nomination by a paralegal who regarded her as a genuine advocate for women in their office.
Reflecting on her storied journey to date, Ms. Young attributes much of her success to her upbringing, which played an important role in shaping her values and professional outlook. Raised by parents who emphasized both hard work and integrity, she credits this environment with instilling in her a strong sense of right and wrong that has guided every stage of her career. Additionally, her early exposure to public service through a summer position at a county attorney's office solidified her interest in law and fueled her passion for serving those in need.
Throughout every phase of her career, Ms. Young has made a lasting impact in client advocacy and counseling as well as victim and public interest advocacy — achievements that underscore her professional stature, selflessness and enduring commitment to helping those most in need within society.
