EL DORADO, AR, October 15, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Tiffany P. Hurley has served as director of The El Dorado Promise since 2023, leading a privately funded scholarship program established in 2007 through a $50 million commitment from Murphy Oil Corporation to provide eligible graduates of El Dorado High School with opportunities to pursue postsecondary education. Since its inception, the Promise has served more than 5,000 students, helping generations of El Dorado graduates continue their education at colleges and universities throughout Arkansas and across the country.
As director, Ms. Hurley manages both the financial administration of the scholarship and the student and family support that surrounds it. Her responsibilities include determining eligibility, administering scholarship payments, reviewing academic progress and annual renewals, coordinating with colleges and universities, maintaining program compliance and financial controls, and helping students and families understand how the Promise works within their individual financial aid and college plans.
Her work begins well before students arrive on a college campus. Ms. Hurley works directly with El Dorado High School seniors and their families as they prepare for life after graduation, explaining Promise eligibility and renewal requirements, helping them understand college costs and financial aid, and connecting students with resources that can help them succeed. She also participates in outreach throughout the El Dorado School District so younger students grow up understanding that postsecondary education is an opportunity available to them.
A signature tradition of the program is Academic Signing Day, an annual celebration recognizing graduating seniors and their postsecondary plans. Over its history, the event has welcomed distinguished speakers, including former United States presidents, while placing the focus on students and the opportunities ahead of them. As The El Dorado Promise approaches its 20th anniversary in 2027, Ms. Hurley is helping lead the program into its next chapter while preserving the mission that has guided it from the beginning.
An important development during her tenure came in 2024, when The El Dorado Promise expanded its eligibility at South Arkansas College to include technical certificate programs and part-time enrollment. The expansion created additional pathways for students pursuing skilled careers and reflected a broader understanding of what postsecondary success can look like. Ms. Hurley believes educational opportunity should recognize the goals and abilities of individual students, whether their path leads to a technical credential, an associate degree or a four-year university.
Ms. Hurley's professional path brings together experience in accounting, education and direct service to students and families. After earning a Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2000, she spent 10 years working for a certified public accounting firm. After returning to her hometown of El Dorado, she became involved in the local school district first as a volunteer and later as a paraprofessional and elementary school secretary. Those experiences provided her with an understanding of both financial stewardship and the everyday needs of students and families, perspectives she now brings together in administering The El Dorado Promise.
Her involvement with students extends beyond the Promise. Ms. Hurley has committed to supporting South Arkansas College's Upward Bound program for its 2027–2032 grant cycle as an instructor and mentor. Her role will include supporting students' college and career goals, sharing information about postsecondary opportunities and helping eligible students understand how The El Dorado Promise can work alongside other resources to make education after high school more financially accessible.
Looking ahead, Ms. Hurley is focused not only on helping students reach college or career training, but also on helping them successfully navigate what comes next. She is particularly interested in identifying barriers that can affect students during the transition from high school to postsecondary education and strengthening partnerships that provide students with support before and after graduation.
For Ms. Hurley, leading The El Dorado Promise is ultimately about stewardship—of the investment made in El Dorado, of the opportunities created for its students and of a program designed to make educational possibilities real for generations of graduates. Her goal is to ensure that students understand the opportunities available to them, have the information and support necessary to pursue them, and are able to choose the educational path that best fits their own goals.
