Leo E. Eden Achieves Recognition for Expertise and Contributions to the Field of Engineering
Press Release October 15, 2026
Leo E. Eden brings over 40 years of experience across engineering, construction of new equipment installations, and project management to his leadership role at Los Alamos National Laboratory

LOS ALAMOS, NM, October 15, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Leo E. Eden has been recognized for achievement in engineering and project managing new large, robust equipment installations.

Marked by a steady progression through increasingly senior roles and a commitment to mentoring the next generation of professionals, Mr. Eden's distinguished career in engineering and project management spans more than four decades. Since 1998, when he started as a project engineer, he has served as a project-program director 5 at the renowned scientific institution Los Alamos National Laboratory, where he builds and leads field execution teams, oversees the design and installation of client-requested equipment, and manages requirements for custom fabrications from vendors.

Mr. Eden's responsibilities at Los Alamos include carefully handling contamination when found, overseeing the construction and testing of equipment and products, and directing teams whose work depends on coordinated multiple shifts. His management occasionally tells Mr. Eden his efforts and those of his team are likened to rebuilding an aircraft in flight, including critical safety procedures necessary for removing and reinstalling the aircraft engines one at a time without being noticed by the passengers.

Throughout his tenure, Mr. Eden has prioritized mentoring project managers and construction professionals, developing more standardized execution schedules, and introducing a training approach aimed at helping new team members become productive quickly. He takes particular pride in guiding young people interested in the field, believing that early preparation equips them to handle professional challenges effectively. His dedication extends to authoring continuing education courses in project management, cost estimating, risk management and leadership communication. By sharing the practical knowledge he has gained from both successes and failures, he ensures that valuable lessons are passed on rather than lost to retirement.

Prior to joining Los Alamos National Laboratory, Mr. Eden held key positions at EG&G (Edgerton, Germeshausen, and Grier, Inc.), where he advanced from project engineering and deputy project manager to leading project management roles. During his time at EG&G, he frequently traveled for meetings with agencies such as the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). He contributed to the design of the Bureau of Printing and Engraving facility established in Fort Worth, Texas, in the 1980s and worked on vital security projects for dams, foreign embassies, and airports at many locations. These experiences deepened his expertise with the United States Department of Energy (DOE) while he was based in Germantown and Washington D.C. for nearly three years; then to the Pantex Plant for DOE in Amarillo, TX, for three years; with short duration projects at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory near Niskayuna, NY; Pinellas Plant at Largo, Florida; short assignment in Cairo, Egypt; then three years at DOE's Rocky Flats near Golden, CO; then to projects in California; and finally Mr. Eden left EG&G to take employment opportunity at the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Mr. Eden began his professional journey with Leedshill-Herkenhoff Inc., where he was introduced to government work through design projects for the DOE Pantex Plant. This role provided him with foundational experience in engineering within highly regulated environments. His later returned to the Pantex Plant while employed by EG&G on a large design-build security upgrade project.

Hailing from an equally accomplished educational background, Mr. Eden earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of New Mexico in 1984 as well as a master's degree in management, business, marketing, and related support services from Regis University in 1996. His academic pursuits were supported by a four-year electrical apprenticeship program he completed during his early years as an electrician.

Dedicated to the ideals of continuous learning and industry growth, Mr. Eden became licensed as a professional engineer and was certified as both a project management professional and physical security professional. He also holds electrical licenses from Colorado and New Mexico as well as credentials in earned value management systems and control account manager. These qualifications have been particularly significant at Los Alamos National Laboratory given the complexity of the work performed there.

Raised on his grandparents' farm and ranch in Edgewood, New Mexico, Mr. Eden credits his upbringing with instilling in him a strong work ethic and the ability to consistently adapt. The transition from farm life to electrical contracting, which he witnessed through his father's career, provided him with early exposure to hands-on problem-solving and responsibility. After his military service reinforced these values further, he entered engineering school with a focus on electrical engineering before moving into government-related design-build construction projects.

Mr. Eden's professional approach is shaped by humility and a willingness to support his colleagues across all levels of management without seeking recognition or advancement for its own sake. Comfortable collaborating with diverse groups including scientists and attorneys, he is known for his positive attitude, ability to make others smile and skill as a listener who considers multiple perspectives. He is also grateful to his manager at EG&G, Glen Tarleton, who encouraged and supported Mr. Eden's transition into the world of robust security design-build projects, project management, and later as a quality assurance reviewer for dozens of designs performed by Tarleton Engineering, Inc.

Looking toward the future, Mr. Eden plans to extend his involvement at Los Alamos National Laboratory while gradually dedicating more time to sharing his knowledge through teaching, webinars, and presentations for professionals in project management fields. He continues to explore opportunities with various educational providers and online platforms to expand access to practical training materials for those entering the industry.
