JAMESTOWN, NC, October 19, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Hugh McCulloch has been recognized for achievement in infrastructure construction estimating software training and consulting.
Mr. McCulloch has established himself as a leading authority in infrastructure construction estimating software training and consulting, achieving a level of expertise recognized throughout North America. Since 2010, he has served as the owner and principal consultant of Rednyb Consulting LLC in North Carolina.
In this capacity, Mr. McCulloch travels extensively to client sites across the United States and Canada, providing hands-on training for construction company staff on both estimating software and the underlying principles of construction estimating. He advises growing construction firms on how to scale their operations and processes, drawing upon his deep institutional knowledge of legacy software features to support both companies and the software vendor itself. The name of his consulting company, Rednyb Consulting, is an anagram of his middle name Bryden, which honors his grandfather's surname.
Prior to founding Rednyb Consulting LLC, Mr. McCulloch was a consultant and trainer with Heavy Construction Systems Specialists in Houston, Texas, from 2001 to 2010. During this period, he played a pivotal role in supporting clients' adoption of advanced estimating technologies. His tenure at Heavy Construction Systems Specialists began under unique circumstances, with his first day coinciding with September 11, 2001. Over nearly a decade with the company, he became widely regarded for his expertise and was informally recognized as one of the top five most knowledgeable users worldwide of HCSS software.
Earlier in his career, Mr. McCulloch worked as an independent consultant and trainer for various construction companies in Eastern Ontario, Canada. He began using Heavy Construction Systems Specialists' flagship estimating software around 1990 while employed by a local construction firm. His frequent feedback and suggestions for improvement attracted the attention of the software's owner, Michael Rydin, who subsequently invited him to train other customers — a development that launched Mr. McCulloch's journey as a trainer and consultant.
Among his professional achievements, Mr. McCulloch is most proud of his involvement in a landmark international infrastructure project in Israel in 1996. This $1.1 billion highway and bridge construction initiative encompassed 90 kilometers of roadway and 189 bridges and was notable for its early adoption of electronic tolling technology. The complexity of the project required estimating across three different currencies within a multinational consortium. Mr. McCulloch trained the estimating team at a Toronto-based construction partner on the relevant software and was later brought back to assist directly with the project's estimate.
Mr. McCulloch's educational background includes coursework and graduation from a military boarding school with a high school diploma. He credits this strict academic environment with instilling discipline and moral grounding that have shaped his professional approach. The values imparted by his father — particularly the importance of doing the right thing at work — have also been instrumental in guiding his sustained commitment to learning and excellence within his field.
Throughout his career, Mr. McCulloch has observed significant shifts within the construction industry workforce, particularly regarding shortages of skilled tradespeople such as welders and heavy equipment operators. He notes that decades of cultural emphasis on four-year college degrees have contributed to these shortages by undervaluing vocational careers despite their lucrative potential. He acknowledges public figures like Mike Rowe for helping redirect attention toward the importance of skilled trades.
In addition to his professional pursuits, Mr. McCulloch holds dual Canadian and American citizenship, which facilitates his frequent cross-border consulting engagements. Born in Montreal, Quebec, he is an empty nester with two grown stepdaughters. Outside of work, he enjoys reading, vintage audio, woodworking and spending time with family.
