ROHNERT PARK, CA, October 19, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rebecca Plunk has been recognized for achievement in construction.

Ms. Plunk's career in healthcare construction has been defined by a steady progression through increasingly complex and impactful roles, each contributing to her reputation as a leader in the field. Since 2020, she has served as the senior project manager for Sutter Health, one of Northern California's largest healthcare providers. In this capacity, Ms. Plunk manages projects across multiple counties, overseeing all phases from initial concept and property scouting to design, permitting, construction and post-occupancy.

Additionally, Ms. Plunk manages project budgets, schedules and scopes while coordinating construction activities within occupied hospital spaces — work that requires strict compliance with California's specialized hospital construction regulations and careful attention to minimizing disruption to patient care and staff operations. Her responsibilities also include overseeing the replacement of critical infrastructure systems such as cooling equipment, generators, fuel tanks, and water systems; coordinating utility relocations, including high-pressure gas lines; and developing contingency and shutdown transition plans. Throughout, she liaises with the state regulatory agencies responsible for hospital construction oversight.

Among Ms. Plunk's most significant achievements at Sutter Health is the completion of a new ambulatory clinic just two miles from her home. For nearly a decade, her city had sought improved healthcare access, with residents often forced to travel to other cities for urgent care or basic medical services.

Recognizing the personal importance of this project for her family and community, Ms. Plunk advocated strongly for the assignment and devoted meticulous attention to every detail. The resulting clinic now offers primary care, rotating specialty care, urgent care, advanced imaging services, and lab work, filling a critical gap in local healthcare access. The project was recognized with the Excellence in Construction Award in 2025 and is regarded by Ms. Plunk as her proudest professional accomplishment due to its direct impact on the well-being of her neighbors and friends.

Prior to joining Sutter Health, Ms. Plunk served as senior project manager for Adventist Health's Northern California region, covering Sonoma, Lake and Solano counties. Adventist Health operates primarily in remote areas, presenting unique infrastructure challenges unlike those found in urban settings.

Notably, Ms. Plunk managed projects involving a hospital that operated its own water company — sourcing water from a mountain, treating it for use by both medical facilities and approximately 150 residential homes in the valley below — as well as overseeing the rebuilding of a wastewater treatment plant. This role required exceptional self-sufficiency from the facilities team and exposed Ms. Plunk to the broader challenges faced by patients in remote locations.

Ms. Plunk's earlier experience includes serving as capital construction project manager at University of Southern California/Children's Hospital Los Angeles from 2014 to 2017 and as project manager for national facilities services capital projects at Kaiser Permanente's Sunset Boulevard campus in Los Angeles from 2012 to 2014. At Kaiser Permanente — her first role after relocating to California — she managed projects within a major medical campus comprising a large hospital, multiple office buildings and parking structures.

Earlier yet, Ms. Plunk worked as a project engineer at Scott Long Construction Inc. in Washington, D.C., where she gained early exposure to healthcare facility construction while finishing her degree in 2011. Before that, she was a project coordinator at CMDR Associates Inc. from 2008 to 2010.

Throughout her career, Ms. Plunk has maintained active involvement in industry organizations. She is an associate member of the American Institute of Architects and participates in events organized by the Lean Construction Institute through her company's membership.

Ms. Plunk's educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management Technology from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, which she completed in 2011. She later pursued coursework toward a Master of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley, but paused her studies due to family commitments after being accepted into the program.

Complementing her formal education, Ms. Plunk's professional credentials include certification as an architectural associate with the American Institute of Architects since 2021 and recognition as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional by the U.S. Green Building Council since 2017.

Reflecting on her career, Ms. Plunk attributes much of her success to the unwavering support of her husband — who took on significant family responsibilities while she advanced her career — as well as encouragement from her children, who have accompanied her on job sites during school breaks or practices when schedules overlapped with work obligations. She also credits tenacity, resilience after setbacks and guidance from supportive supervisors who recognized her potential early on. Her approach emphasizes building genuine relationships with all team members regardless of role or education level.

Ms. Plunk's interest in healthcare construction took root during her twenties when she participated in building a new infusion center for cancer patients at a hospital that had not updated its facilities for decades. Witnessing firsthand how improved spaces affected patients' experiences left a lasting impression on Ms. Plunk and continues to fuel her passion for creating environments that directly benefit those who need them most.

Outside of work, Ms. Plunk is deeply involved with Little League baseball as a volunteer — roles inspired by her sons' participation in youth baseball programs over many years. She has served as assistant coach, team mom, scorekeeper, and certified umpire after stepping up when adult volunteers were needed for games or teams required leadership support.

Ms. Plunk's contributions have been recognized through several industry awards, including the Best Regional Healthcare Project Award from Engineering News-Record in 2022 for leading a hospital expansion project and the Excellence in Construction Award in 2025 for delivering an urgently needed clinic within her own community.

Looking ahead, Ms. Plunk plans to complete requirements for architecture licensure through California's alternate pathway that recognizes professional experience alongside formal education credits. With all required experience hours submitted under licensed professionals' supervision, she is currently awaiting confirmation of eligibility to sit for licensing exams with aspirations toward additional certifications once family commitments allow greater flexibility.

Balancing professional achievement with family life remains central to Ms. Plunk's identity. She enjoys following her sons' baseball activities and supporting their development both on and off the field — while continuing to pursue personal growth within architecture and construction management fields.
