CRAWFORDVILLE, FL, October 19, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rocco Bollotta has been recognized for achievement in aviation flight engineering services.
Marked by a progression through increasingly responsible and specialized roles, Mr. Bollotta's distinguished career in aviation engineering spans more than four decades of outstanding service. Most recently, he held the title of flight engineer, concluding his professional journey in 2012 after serving as the manager of a fuel farm at Panama City Airport. In this capacity, he oversaw critical aspects of airport operations, drawing on his extensive technical background and leadership skills developed over many years in both military and civilian aviation.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Bollotta spent approximately six months working in the Middle East with assignments in Saudi Arabia, Dubai and Al Ain. Although he gained valuable international experience during this period, he ultimately chose to leave due to concerns about operational safety standards. He also dedicated four years to Atlas Air Cargo, where he served as a flight engineer on Boeing 747 aircraft before industry-wide changes reduced the demand for engineer seats as airlines transitioned to two-seat cockpit designs.
Mr. Bollotta's expertise was further honed during his year with Omni Air, where he contributed his knowledge and proficiency as a flight engineer. His initial post-military role was with American Trans Air (ATA), which provided a strong foundation for his subsequent positions in commercial aviation.
The cornerstone of Mr. Bollotta's professional life was his service in the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1992, during which he rose to the rank of master sergeant. For the first decade of his military career, he served as a crew chief responsible for maintaining F-4 Phantom aircraft, fulfilling a childhood aspiration to work on these renowned jets. His assignments took him across multiple bases, including deployments to Vietnam and Thailand during the Vietnam War. Notably, he volunteered for a covert mission that involved returning to closed bases in Vietnam to support extended combat operations by refueling and rearming aircraft between sorties.
After 10 years as a crew chief, Mr. Bollotta cross-trained as a flight engineer, a role he held for the final 13 years of his Air Force tenure. He operated C-141 aircraft and participated in significant missions, including service during the first Gulf War. Among his most memorable experiences was an incident at an air base in South Carolina when a hydraulic explosion caused a fire aboard a C-141 while he was demonstrating the aircraft to visitors; his quick thinking and decisive action ensured everyone's safety and prevented further disaster by moving another nearby airplane out of harm's way. He and his team received a commendation medal for their bravery and dedication during this emergency.
Mr. Bollotta began his academic journey at a boys' vocational high school in New Jersey, where he majored in aviation and gained hands-on experience in both airframe and engine shops. This rigorous program prepared him for immediate entry into the field; just five days after graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Air Force with the intention of repairing aircraft if he could not fly them himself due to the strict vision requirements for pilots. He later earned an associate degree and obtained an airframe and powerplant license — credentials that proved vital throughout his career as both a military crew chief and civilian flight engineer.
A lifelong love of aviation has driven Mr. Bollotta's achievements and sustained his enthusiasm for learning about new and emerging technologies within the industry. This passion was sparked early by visits to Italian air bases with his father, who served as a police officer stationed there before the family immigrated from Rome to the United States when Mr. Bollotta was 5 years old.
Alongside his professional accomplishments, Mr. Bollotta is a lifetime member of and volunteer with Veterans of Foreign Wars, reflecting his commitment to supporting his fellow veterans and remaining engaged with the broader military community.
On a personal level, Mr. Bollotta leads a rich and fulfilling family life as the father of one adopted son and one daughter. Now enjoying his retirement, he engages in activities like reading about new aircraft developments, attending air shows and visiting aviation museums whenever possible. A seasoned traveler who has visited a remarkable 135 countries worldwide, he continues to seek out new destinations and is planning an upcoming cross-country road trip across the United States to explore regions and cultures he has yet to visit.
