HOUSTON, TX, October 20, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. M. Jason Williams has been recognized for achievement in Veterans services.

Dr. Williams's career has been defined by a steadfast commitment to advancing Veterans' services in Harris County and beyond. Since 2020, he has served as Deputy Director of the Harris County Veterans Services Department, where he oversees a staff of 28 and works to connect the region's large Veteran population with the benefits they have earned through their service. His responsibilities include connecting Veterans with earned benefits, supporting justice-involved Veterans and those facing substance abuse, mental and or physical health challenges, homelessness and Veteran suicide issues. Dr. Williams's leadership was instrumental in transforming the department from a limited office into a comprehensive agency that addresses a wide range of Veteran needs.

The origins of his current role trace back to 2019, when Dr. Williams appeared before the Harris County Commissioners Court as a concerned Veteran. He challenged the office for failing to fully comply with state law and advocated for an expanded vision for Veterans' services in a county with substantial resources. This advocacy led county officials to invite him to help design a new business plan, organizational structure and job descriptions for the department. After contributing to this foundational work, Dr. Williams accepted an invitation to join the department and implement these changes, which he considers his most significant professional achievement.

Prior to his tenure at Harris County, Dr. Williams spent about seven months at the University of Houston as a Program Manager with its Veterans department within Student Affairs from 2019 to 2020. There, he focused on student success, keeping Veterans engaged in their academic programs by connecting them with resources and conducting outreach to ensure both Veterans and their families were aware of available support services.

From 2010 to 2018, Dr. Williams served as Program Manager for Family Services, a United Way Organization in Houston. In this capacity, he contributed eight years of service to community-focused initiatives, further developing his expertise in program management and support services.

His military background includes four years as a Human Intelligence Collector (HUMINT) in the United States Army from 2006 to 2010, where he gained firsthand experience with the challenges faced by service members during and after active duty. Earlier, he served as an engineer and administrator in the United States Navy from 1992 to 1996, adding another four years of military service to his record.

Dr. Williams also brings corporate experience from his roles as Senior Financial Analyst at Compass Bank's corporate banking division in Houston from 2003 to 2005 and at Cooper Energy Services from 2000 to 2003.

His educational journey reflects a deep commitment to lifelong learning and professional development. Dr. Williams earned a Doctor of Education in Learning Sciences from the University of Miami in 2026, demonstrating remarkable dedication by completing coursework early each morning while balancing professional responsibilities. He holds a Master of Science in Communication Management from the University of Southern California, conferred in 2015, which equipped him with advanced skills essential for effective leadership and outreach within Veterans' services. His academic foundation was established with a Bachelor of Administration in Finance from the University of Houston-Downtown in 2001, complemented by coursework through Professional and Executive programs at Rice University.

Throughout his career, Dr. Williams has attributed his achievements to a philosophy rooted in "action over excuses" and unwavering determination. He describes himself as stubborn yet resolute — qualities that have enabled him to remain committed to his goals even under challenging circumstances.

Civic engagement is central to Dr. Williams's life outside of work. He is actively involved with Veterans of Foreign Wars and WWP, regularly participates in military events throughout his area and volunteers extensively with local Veteran organizations. His military service has been recognized with several honors, including the Bronze Star, Combat Action Badge, and Army Commendation Medal, among other awards from the United States Department of Defense in 2008.

Born in Lubbock, Dr. Williams is also dedicated to his family life as a single father who has raised his daughter since a young age. He takes great pride in her many accomplishments, particularly her completion of a college program while still attending high school.

In addition to spending time with other Veteran groups, Dr. Williams enjoys sports, working out and relaxing during his personal time. Looking ahead, he is considering opportunities that would allow him either to lead a university department focused on student services or advance within the Harris County arena. He remains committed to expanding departmental initiatives such as establishing a Veterans docket — a pretrial intervention program developed alongside the Harris County District Attorney — aimed at helping Veterans overcome legal challenges and rebuild their lives. Dr. Williams continues to collaborate with policymakers at various levels and seeks new ways for the department to address justice-related issues, substance abuse and homelessness among Veterans.

This work has become both his professional niche and personal passion — one that aligns with his own experiences as a Veteran and community leader — ensuring that Harris County's Veterans receive comprehensive support tailored to their unique needs.
