SAN ANTONIO, TX, October 22, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Amitabha Kumar has been recognized for achievement in the technology industry.

Dr. Kumar's professional journey of more than 25 years demonstrates a remarkable commitment to advancing materials science and promoting sustainable technologies in the construction industry. As the proprietor of RDKARE Materials in San Antonio, Texas, since 2024, he has dedicated his expertise to developing innovative construction materials with a particular focus on technologies that support the greening of concrete.

Currently, Dr. Kumar is engaged in a project aimed at replacing handmade terracotta objects with concrete alternatives that closely resemble traditional forms but eliminate the drying and firing stages associated with clay-based products. By creating molds and utilizing rapid-setting cement formulations, he is able to complete the entire process in less than two hours, showcasing both efficiency and ingenuity.

Prior to founding his own company, Dr. Kumar served as chief technology officer at Solidia Technologies — a leading provider of decarbonization solutions — from 2022 to 2024. During his tenure, he joined a team tasked with commercializing technology that had been developed by the startup since its inception in 2007. Though further investment was ultimately not secured despite their significant progress, his role at Solidia reflected his dedication to bringing cutting-edge solutions to market and expanding carbon footprint reduction within the industry.

From 2015 to 2021, Dr. Kumar held the position of vice president of innovation and research and development at Boral IP Holdings LLC, following his earlier role as the director of materials research at Boral Industries Inc. from 2012 to 2015. Boral was a major international company valued at over $6 billion in the United States market before relocating back to Australia after three decades of operations in the country. In these capacities, he contributed significantly to advancements in cement and concrete products while also building his expertise in ceramics, construction materials recycling and infrastructure.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Kumar gained valuable leadership experience as vice president of research and development at CalStar Products for three and a half years, technical manager at JHResearchUSA from 2004 to 2008, and director and vice president of research and development at EarthShell Corporation from 2000 to 2004. His outstanding leadership at EarthShell saw him recognized with the Seven Generations Award by the Materials Research Society Group, further underscoring his impact on environmentally responsible materials research.

Dr. Kumar's early professional experience also includes returning to his native India for seven years to work for the government, where he focused on ceramics and low-cost housing materials. In recognition of his contributions during this period, he received the Young Scientist Award in Engineering Sciences across India in 1991 — an honor bestowed by a group comprising 42 laboratories under the government of India.

Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Kumar has divided his efforts equally between startups and established companies, consistently demonstrating his proficiency in construction materials, material science, technologies that support the greening of concrete products, cement and ceramics. He is especially proud of being recognized as a fellow of the American Ceramic Society in 2021, an honor reflecting significant peer respect within the industry.

Hailing from an equally accomplished academic background, Dr. Kumar earned a Doctor of Philosophy in materials science from Pennsylvania State University in 1985, where he studied under Professor Della Roy — the founding editor of the influential journal Cement and Concrete Research — whose mentorship played a pivotal role in shaping Dr. Kumar's approach to scientific inquiry and innovation. He also holds a Bachelor of Technology in ceramic sciences and engineering from Banaras Hindu University, completed in 1978.

Reflecting on his storied journey to date, Dr. Kumar attributes much of his success to the guidance provided by exceptional teachers he studied under throughout high school, college and graduate studies, emphasizing their influence on his growth as both a scholar and professional.

Now carrying on the knowledge he gained from his mentors, Dr. Kumar is devoted to nurturing young talent within his field by recruiting recent college graduates and providing opportunities for their own development. He believes that investing in emerging professionals is essential for continued advancement within materials science.

On a personal level, Dr. Kumar has mentored both of his daughters toward success in science fairs; one daughter represented Texas at the Intel Science Fair while the other earned a Discovery Science Award in Washington for her accomplishments in California. He is immensely grateful to his wife for her dedication to raising their daughters — both of whom went on to graduate from college — highlighting the importance he places on family achievement as well as professional excellence, continuous learning and doing good for others.
