Dr. Hemingway began her career in 1986 as a banking officer at NBD Bank N.A. in Detroit. She held systemwide responsibility for public funds, treasury management, specialty finance, commercial client services, product development and the Genesee County commercial loan group, and participated in the bank's credit committee and shareholder reporting. She redesigned the bank's commercial delivery model around a market-segmented, product-led strategy that produced more than $500,000 in positive financial impact in its first year. She rebuilt a declining commercial deposit portfolio, growing commercial deposits by more than $500 million over five years, and increased fee income by $400,000 year over year through new commercial products. She also formed a public funds banking team that wrote the credit underwriting standards for nonprofit lending and bond underwriting, played a key leadership role in two bank acquisitions and one divestiture, and became a sought-after speaker on electronic lockboxes, e-commerce and emerging banking technologies.

She structured the company's incorporation, financing, accounting and operations, secured a $16 million research award and a $2.5 million grant, earned clean audits from both the granting agency and the company's external auditor, and operated with a positive margin and zero debt before winding the company down in a profitable position. As an independent consultant during the same period, she advised community banks on portfolio realignment, branch divestitures, product line profitability and fee income growth.
From 2013 to 2019, she served as president of Baker College of Flint, the largest campus in the Baker College system, where she also acted as chief financial officer for a $25 million annual budget, directing budgeting, expenditures, the Form 990 review and all audits. Her financial results for the campus included $230,000 in budget reductions through a redesigned student services model, a $640,000 first-year increase in bookstore profitability through outsourcing, approximately $420,000 in energy savings and more than $10 million raised for campus facility improvements. She also right-sized the campus footprint, managing the related regulatory reporting, closures and asset sales. At the system level, she served on the finance committee and the Jewell Education Foundation board, which oversaw an investment portfolio of more than $400 million, and acted as a system signatory and approval authority for investments.
Through The Registry, Dr. Hemingway served as interim vice president for finance at Michigan Technological University from 2019 to 2020. From 2020 to 2024, she was chief financial officer of the League of Southeastern Credit Unions and Affiliates, a three-state credit union league operating 22 for-profit and not-for-profit companies doing business in 34 states. She led a financial recovery effort that used forensic accounting to resolve longstanding discrepancies and audit deficiencies, achieving a clean audit within one year. She built the metrics modeling and bank financing structures that funded the organization's rapid growth, as net assets increased from $32 million in 2019 to $48 million in 2022. She also realigned two finance and accounting staffs following a complex multistate merger, led an enterprise resource planning conversion and consolidated banking relationships across multiple states into a single cash management system.
Since March 2025, Dr. Hemingway has served as chief financial and operations officer of Catapult Employers Association, a multistate employers association whose for-profit and not-for-profit companies do business in 41 states. She oversees consolidated financial reporting, cash management, budgeting and tax and capital planning, manages investment activities as primary liaison to the board audit and investment committees, leads merger activity, directed the organization's ERP platform conversion and established a foundation, including its fundraising, grant distribution and operations.
