NORTHFIELD, IL, October 28, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Libby Fischer Hellmann, author and publisher with Fischer Hellmann Communications, was selected by Marquis Who's Who for a prominent feature in the September 2026 New York City regional issue of Vanity Fair magazine.

The story begins in a dimly lit basement. A woman sits at a desk, tapping at a keyboard. She is a mother and has worked in communications for more than 20 years, but recently her life has been upended by her father's passing. Looking for somewhere to pour her energy, she devotes four months of her life to that basement, plotting devious surprises that no one will see coming.

No, this is not the opening chapter of the latest must-read page-turner; it's the origin of Ms. Hellmann's writing career, born of a lifelong enthusiasm for reading everything she could, fiction and nonfiction. She initially intended to be a filmmaker, taking a job as an assistant film editor with NBC's news department while attending graduate school. From there, Ms. Hellmann spent over five years as a broadcast news producer and then gained broader experience as a communications training manager at Burson-Marsteller. In 1985, she founded her own company, Fischer Hellmann Communications, where she continues to write and produce presentations and programs for clients.

Inspired by her fascination with the highly publicized O.J. Simpson trial in 1995 and her mother's love of mystery novels, Ms. Hellmann began to feel a spark to write her own stories. After that four-month retreat to her basement, she emerged with her first manuscript. Upon receiving a handful of rejections from literary agents, Ms. Hellman joined a local writers' group. Under the guidance and mentorship of that group's members, she honed her craft and received an offer to publish her first book in 2001.

Since then, Ms. Hellmann has continued writing at a dizzying pace, authoring 18 novels and 30 short stories in 25 years. She has become a celebrated figure in the world of mystery and thriller fiction, with a specialty in grounding her genre credentials in a deeper historical context. "A Bend in the River," published in 2020, is set during the Vietnam War and earned Ms. Hellmann the Best Indie Fiction Award from the Chicago Writers Association. Her most recent novel, "Max's War," was completed in 2024 and is loosely based on the real-life exploits of her late father-in-law during World War II.

Ms. Hellmann is now working toward her goal of publishing 20 books. Having carved out a successful niche for herself, she has graduated from her humble basement beginnings and looks forward to continuing to write as long as she has new ideas.

GIVING BACK
Ms. Hellmann believes in paying forward the help she received. She has served as president of Sisters in Crime, a group dedicated to supporting women mystery writers, and she has hosted monthly interview shows with Authors on the Air and the Author's Voice network.

COMING SOON
Ms. Hellmann is hard at work on her 19th novel. The new book will adapt and broaden "Capital Partners," a 20-page short story she originally published in an anthology in 2012. Challenging her preference for historical fiction, Ms. Hellmann's next novel features a contemporary setting and will include the exploration of artificial intelligence.
