CHATSWORTH, CA, October 28, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- David Andrew Goodman of Goodman Grip & Light, producer, actor, certified prop gun specialist and gaffer, was selected by Marquis Who's Who for a prominent feature in the September 2026, Los Angeles, California, regional issue of GQ magazine.
When Mr. Goodman first became involved in the world of movies in the early 1990s, it happened by coincidence. After returning home to Los Angeles from school in Savannah and working for short stretches as a tattoo artist and in retail art supplies, he began teaching airbrushing. One day, a friend invited Mr. Goodman to a parking lot in Playa Vista, California, where models for an upcoming film were being built. He ended up creating an airbrush and painted rust sample board, and the film's director hired him on the spot.
That director was James Cameron, and the first movie Mr. Goodman would work on was "Titanic." It would go on to become the highest-grossing film of all time worldwide.
From those auspicious beginnings, Mr. Goodman would bring his special effects talents to such films as "The Fifth Element," "Godzilla" (1998), and "Hollow Man." As the industry shifted away from practical effects in the 2000s, he enrolled in classes at the University of California, Los Angeles, expanding his production and digital post-production skills and ability to contribute to filmmaking. Mr. Goodman transitioned into work in avid editing and grip and electric lighting. He enjoyed tenures at Digital Domain, Sony Imagewords, Thunderstone, Paramount Pictures, Lany Entertainment, Universal Studios, and more.
In 2014, Mr. Goodman founded Goodman Grip & Light, offering his extensive experience to clients to help create feature films, music videos, commercials and other media projects. He expanded his services in 2020 with the launch of notacopla.com, through which he works as an actor and a certified, licensed prop gun wrangler. Mr. Goodman has appeared as an actor in a number of projects, including music videos from Kelsea Ballerini and Five Finger Death Punch. His 2026 short films include Golden State Film Festival award-winning "Wolf Valley," "Hellfire," and upcoming "Contract."
Over the past 35 years, Mr. Goodman has demonstrated an enviable ability to adapt to challenges, learn new skills and make reliably strong contributions to the movie industry. While this journey has been driven by his own actions, he emphasizes that all of those choices were based on appreciation and gratitude. He is especially grateful for the support of his friends, colleagues and family, especially his parents, who encouraged him during his most challenging moments. He believes that all success in entertainment is due to a team effort — even when it starts with a chance meeting in a parking lot.
GIVING BACK
Among his recent projects, the feature film "Skillhouse" stands out, and Mr. Goodman is particularly proud to be part of The CreativeHQ Film Mentorship Program established by an accomplished close friend in the industry. Through this endeavor, he volunteers his time to perform as an actor and teach producing, first assistant directing, lighting, and prop gun work in a hands-on setting with a small number of students. Working together, the students and the mentors release a new short film every few months. Mr. Goodman is excited to play a part in teaching the next generation of film content creators.
OFF-SCREEN
When the cameras stop rolling, Mr. Goodman returns to a happy home life with his loving wife, Jodi, Charlie the pug, and two cats. His favorite pastimes include fine art painting, snow skiing, enjoying restaurants with his wife, and tactical firearms training to assist with realistic performances in the movies in which he is involved.
